I only do it because I don't really drink any more because I messed myself up through drinking too much at uni, and so the money that save from not drinking I can afford to put towards something to make the term a little brighter.

Wow - I was halfway through my senior year before I figured that one out. Man, what money I spent on drinking before that though...a PS3 game is a drop in that bucket.

Unlike most students it seems mechanical engineering undergraduates actually have to work and so it would give me something to do after a long day, other than a girl

I'm a mech engineer, and yup, you do have work in school. The other thing I figured out senior year was that it went much better if you treat it like regular work - 8 - 5, M-F and only evenings and weekends when needed to beat a short-term crunch. I had way more fun that year - drinking less and working a schedule. I had time and the cash to do things on the weekend
