So, who has removed those little nubs from the bottom of the foot pegs? I call them street feelers cause they let you know when you're really leaning with an aweful scraping sound.

I got rid of mine. Looked like little balls on the bottome of my foot pegs, didn't like the look at all.

I haven't got the skills or confidence to lean my new bike over that far so it hasn't been an issue, but I also haven't had my bike long so I'm not yet starting to pick out the parts that I want changed

Does removing them have any impact on the pegs folding back up if you drop the bike?

I just removed mine the other day because I'm starting to get to the point where I could start scraping them. There's absolutely no effect on the footpegs folding up if needed. Don't quote me on this, but with them off, you're probably going to run out of tire before you scrape the footpegs.

Took mine off soon after I got the FZ. Once the feelers are gone, next stop is grinding the center/side stands. Unfortunately, these are a bit more functional than the feelers so they won't be coming off. In this case, hanging off the bike to improve ground clearance becomes necessary.

Mine came off after two scrapes. They really served no purpose for me other than freaking me out.

good thing you took them off. You don't need them; however, you shouldn't be scraping pegs on the street. 1) slow down. 2) get your butt/body off the bike in turns and you'll leave the bike more upright thus resulting in no scraping.

^^Definitely. I only scraped mine in the canyon on an uphill banked turn. If you're scraping on the street you need to change something (riding position, turn in rate, speed).

i don't think i've ever scraped mine, but when i lean it far over, my tires feel like they're slipping/squirming. it is a little unnerving. bad tires?

yea, bad tires. Even good tires start doing that towards the end of their life. Mine would skip/squirm in turn in the canyons and then I got a flat tire, got a new tire since the tire was nearly done anyways and haven't had a problem since. Most likely your tires unless you're moving around whilst turning.

I remember reading in a magazine that if your cornering fast enough, even with good tyres there can be a certain amount of sliding, I mean its not huge but you would feel it.

i think they're dunlops that are on there. they came on the bike, could be the originals. the bike is 5 years old.

Took mine off when I began hitting them. They would hit on some of the killer turns we have on our mountain roads east of San Diego.

If your tires are 5 years old replace them!
Find the DOT code on the side, so you can tell how old they are.
Searching for your lean angle limit on 5 year old tires is just dangerous.
Tires are so important on bike's.

I was scraping my feelers with good body positioning.
Got a set of rearsets now, just a bid afraid of sidestand scraping. But I guess I won't be getting so low on the street. On track I take it of.

Taking them off is not necessary, they are made to scrape the ground. They tell you you're reaching the safe "limit" of the bike.
