Some advice please..

Due to a new contract I am going to have to sell my little lady and get one of those things with 4 wheels.

So, for those of you who have sold/bought recently, where is the best place to advertise. When I was in the UK it was pretty straight forward but are there any strange rules that I need to be aware of here in the US, I have the title documents etc but I am not too sure what I would have to do about the number plate (tag?), does it stay on the bike?

Also, she is a 2006, 5000 miles, not a scratch, all stock, good tyres (tires) etc and is the superfast red. What sort of price would be fair.

well, here in the states, it pretty much depends on where you live. typically, a 2005 would need a title (unless you still owe money on it,t hen you need to get your loan paid off before you get the title) to sell, and a good place to list is craigslist.com. as far as other documentation, being from NH, i have no idea how florida does things. for pricing, check out kelly blue book (kbb.com) to see what buyers are seeing, or surf craigslist to see what others are listing similar bikes in your area for.

Thanks, it has a clear title (no money owed), I know they might have seemed like silly questions but it is the first time I have sold anything here in the US.

Look online, I am sure there are message/for sale boards for your local area, as well as craigslist. Just watch out for scams coming from craigslist. If it doesn't feel right it's probably a scam.

You keep the plate. The only thing that goes with the bike is the signed title so they can have it transferred to their name and a copy of the sales receipt (having a sales reciept is my strong reccomendation). At least in MI.

Make them pay with cash or a cashiers check or bank note. If they want to write you a check, they can just as easily produce cash/bank note for you. Don't take a wal*mart money order.

As for a clean '06 w/5k miles, I'd probably start firmly around $4700. Can't say for sure why, just what came to mind, so that doesn't help you.

Also make sure you follow EXACTLY whatever it says to do on the title and fill everything out EXACTLY as it should be, such as full legal names etc., otherwise you may have to get a new copy of the title and try again. Happened to my friend once.

Once sold, hang the plate in your house above some candles to create a shrine for your late beloved.

Check your local DMV regarding the plate status. You do keep it, but some states require you to turn it in in the event it will no longer be used. I had a vehicle registered in VA and moved back to Maine many years ago (1986). After registering my vehicle in Maine, I threw out the VA plates. Fast forward to 1998 when I moved to NH. I went to change my drivers license to a NH license and discovered I had a ticket in VA to clear up first. I called the number DMV provided and found out my license was suspended in VA because I failed to turn in the plates. I had to pay a $10.00 fine to get my license reinstated so NH could issue a new one.

As long as you have clear title, sell for what you can get out of it. You only need a bill of sale and to sign the title over to the buyer.

ebay, craigslist or any local place. Classifieds here might land a sale as well.

I just recently sold my old Ninja on Craigslist a few months ago. My advice would be to only allow them to contact you through Craigslist, so that you will not get a million calls wanting to talk you down on the price. If they e-mail you a ridiculous price, you do not even have to respond, and if you do respond, you can respond at your convenience.

Also, I would only accept CASH!!!! If they can get a money order, cashiers check or anything else they can bring cash. Money orders and cashiers checks can be counterfeit just as easy as anything else. You can cash a money order or cashiers check from your bank, and as long as you have the funds, they will do it. However, if the money order is fake, the bank will take the money out of your account and not go after the person that gave the money order to you. If they are serious about the purchase, then they will play by your terms.

As far as price, I agree with the others. It all depends on where you are.

yea: craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums is the greatest thing in the world.

Your local dmv website will also let you know just how to go about it. http://www.flhsmv.gov I think should do it. Also, read the pink slip that you have (the title) it has the directions on it on how to transfer the title to the buyer. You have to sign it in a few spots.

Cycle Trader Magazine, available at convience stores, is a good place to
put an ad also.
EBay would be a good place with alot of exposure, but the fees are higher.
Some cycle shops will sell it on consignment for you. Check with a local
Yamaha dealer near you.
Price range should be $4700-$5,000 depends on how fast you want it to go.

As to who keeps the plates: in CA the plates stay on the vehicle. All other posts for other states have said the plates stay with you, but that's not universally true.
