I've been off the forum for a while since my bike got stolen had I had shoulder surgery, but I'm back in the market for another bike and I'm wondering what 'the forum' thinks of the FZ8. And before anyone starts - I tried searching for "FZ8" ad got no results. ;)

Obviously the search is not working as I can see another post with "FZ8" in the subject line just a few entries below this one. Nevertheless, any thoughts would be helpful.

Try searching for "FZ8*" David, you need at least 4 letters for the search function
BTW welcome back.

It's a complete loser, IMHO.

Almost as heavy as an FZ1, not much more horsepower than an FZ6, non-adjustable suspension, high price tag, etc...

Just buy an FZ1...

How about check out the FZ8 forum?
I went there already. I don't want to know what people who have already shelled out their hard-earned cash think (they are certain to like it aren't they, I want to know what the wise and experienced FZ6 forum has to think.

+1 to what Philosopheriam said.

IMHO, the horsepower gains over the FZ6 are not enough to offset the increased weight. From what I have read, the engine is "detuned" similar to what Yamaha has done for the FZ6R. I have not had a chance to ride one yet, but would like to take one for a good test ride someday.
I would definitely choose an FZ1 over the FZ8. When I upgrade to a different bike, I am looking at the FZ1 or the Honda VFR1200.

Looks awesome, but seems to lack in other areas. The FZ1 seems like it will give you more bang for the buck. But if you gave me one, I'm sure I would love it ;)

If I was in your shoes, I would definitely consider BMW'S F800ST, it has all I want on a bike.
I'm in love with the FZ6 looks and I think the FZ8 lost all that charm specially on the pipe department.
I found this review on youtube.

Haha! That second video..."a torture rack from a Japanese porno" at 2:25

We wasn't referring to the FZ8 BTW.

Ride magazine loved the FZ8; Performance Bikes panned it for being too expensive with cheap suspension and not enough grunt and power.

I've not read the Bike review but I'm told they didn't like it either.

I bought this here FZ6 the other week from a main dealer. It's 2 years old with 1300 miles on the clock. It was £4500 less than the list price of the FZ8.

The naked version looks good in black. Thats about the only good thing ive got to say about it.

Im just repeating what other people have said, not much more powerful than the FZ6, is effectively an FZ1 (well it shares alot of parts) with approx 200cc less.

Can't help but wonder did Yamaha simply make the FZ8 to assist in using up the current FZ1 stockpile of parts so they can give us an all new FZ1 with the crossplane cranked R1 engine :drool::drool: Id buy that one if they make it

I am with everyone else too, seems like a big price tag for not much more over what we have in the FZ6, may as well bite the bullet and get the FZ1

:)

It's fat, it's slow, has a heavy throttle, looks like an FZ1 (NOT A BAD THING), has an ugly exhaust pipe, and is not as quick as the FZ6!

FZ8 is not a great bike, although was talking to the local Yamaha guy and he reckons it is heaps better than the FZ6, heaps more power and easier to wheelie. If really want the best bike that will knock your socks off and sounds awesome stock go for the Street Triple R, alot cheaper than the FZ8 too.

EDIT :- Welcome back :)

Go and ride one mate, everyone else is just quoting stats.
Your the only one that can say if you like it,if it feels right and does the job you want it to ,then whats the problem ?
