I guess I'd call this Touring Lite. I got these Chase Harper cruiser saddle bags real cheap on craigslist. They were some dude's ex-wife's so he got rdi of them for $20! They are great for carrying water, some light clothes, tool etc and fit snugly on the bike. They have an internal PVC form so they keep their shape. It think the model number is 3700.

Fantastic setup! I have soft cases, and have only made a makeshift bracket for them. Yours looks great and sturdy! Well done.

A Few Configurations...

I'm attaching a few setups I'm using for two-up touring.

The first (topbox+tankbag) is nice for weekend trips two-up without camping. Water, camera, and heavy stuff on the tank and the rest of the crap in the trunk.

The second setup is a new one I have yet to test, but is a Cheapskate alternative to Givis. The cases are Adlo 928 scooter top boxes my friend brought me from China (free to me... I think they were under $50 for the pair?). they mounted right up to SW-Motech quick-release racks with the Monokey hardware, and each case will hold two helmets. I removed the backrests and random reflectors and plugged the holes. Recently I've painted that repulsive orange trim black, rekeyed the locks to work with my ignition key, and added Reflexite tape since I took those photos.

With fall coming here to the potholed urban Northwest, I'll plan to test their water-tightness and touring capacity: I figure a few garbage bags may solve any dampness issues if the Chinese plastic survives the bumps. They should easily let me overload the bike to dangerous limits, especially two-up!

As an aside, I still have the stock seat with an Alaska buttpad: been pretty good for even long days, though it's always nice to take breaks. An intercom system to my beloved companion helps shorten monotonous sections too, as does putting her at the controls for the slow rural bits where she's comfortable doing so.

Anyway, I prefer my 50 liter Marsee expandable bag plus the 75 liter waterproof duffle. The duffle is easy to load with lots of items quickly. It also can be moved around in order to optimize back support.
The added benefit of the bungee cords is you can put items like a rain suit under the straps for quick access.

I tried the Cortech side-bags but during very windy days it increased the gas consumption and also made the bike "more" unstable. BTW, I have learned from touring that most people will pack much more than is actually needed.

Of course the benefits of hard cases is allowing to secure your belongs and not have someone remove items easily, especially on a commuting scenario and hard cases look a whole lot better than strapped on bags!

P.S.: I have different opinion about Side-Luggage vs Tall-Back-Seat Luggage.
I got better riding experience with lowered side-luggage than higher luggage at the windy condition??

Just my opinion..no offense..here.

The screen I use is about 35 inches tall. It is a custom fix using a CalSci and a Laminar Lip. Because the screen is so tall, it moves the air over me as well as over the top of the large blue bag on the back.

If I did use a short screen, the tall blue bag would cause turbulence and impact handling. I have tried all sorts of variations and for me, this set-up works very well, perhaps with not much style though as some of the other images posted here.

I have ridden up to 120 mph (gps speed) with the above set-up with no instability. BTW, I also have a fork-brace which does help minimize flex at highway speeds. In the mountains of the western US, I was getting about 200-220 per tank of gas.

Her butt is a bit bigger but thats OK

Still need to add the 12v cigarette outlet on the fairing for her electronic toys like the Nuvi 660 and charger for iPhone and air compressor.

Got it all minus the rim tape from Twisted Throttle.

The top rack was a bit of work though and the Givi instructions are horrible.

Ha ha ha, I didn't know Yamaha has FJR600.
But it looks like FJR for me.
Except, that danggling power outlet beside to the radiator cap..
You have to return your FJR to the service department to be fixed.
Or, you can use simple palstic-tie... ha ha ha

Last weeks 2 day ride in 30C heat.
luggage is a Cheong Lee Sailbag (20 years old) held on the back seat with bungee cords!!! Travelling light, Aussie style.
By the way, this 100km stretch of road never has any cops on it as they stick to the major highways etc.

Would certainly like some nice luggage though and it is on my wish list.

Givi Monokey E45 which has plenty of room for gym kit and laptop bag.

Have got a small magnetic tank bag Oxford Tank And Tailer

Going to get something for the sides and thinking that a pair of E35 would be good but not sure whether I can be bothered with moving the indicators so I might just get some soft bags Oxford First Time Pannier Set but I've not yet made up my mind . . . . either way I'll have to fit some sort of bracket for the sides . . .


if you think the back wheel looks a bit high when it on the centre stand that's because the shock link a shorter than normal . . . .
