Shifting question

so i was ridding the other day and i come to a stop but i forgot to drop down to 1st when i get to a stop i allways make sure im on first well i wasnt i was in 4th i tried downshifting but wouldnt i tried rolling the bike and shifting but nothing it turned green i said whatever F*** it i hit my gas let my cluch go and it choked has this happend any easy way to downshift when standing still or do i just need to pay more attention

The transmission has to be in motion to shift between gears. That's how it works since it is a sequential transmission. If you forget you will have to roll the bike and downshift while it is moving.

Pay a lot more attention. You should be aware of what gear you are in all times and get in the habit of being down to 1st before coming to a stop. You may need to move in a hurry at any time to avoid some crazy cager. Weird sh*t happens at intersections, be alert and ready to go.

I never roll up to a stop without being in 2nd, or in extreme cases 1st. And I make sure to shift into first right before I stop rolling.
I also got into the habit of making sure I am in first before I take off.

Although I have been able to take off in 2nd gear by slipping the clutch, it's not ideal.

This bike loves high revs so don't be afraid to be in 2nd at 5000rpm when slowing for an intersection. The engine braking is great.

Of course sometimes, the light changes just when you expect and you have to slam on your breaks and you're still in 5th and can't get down.

If this happens, keep your hand on the front brake with no gas and slowly release the clutch until you feel the bite (the bike will lurch a tiny bit and you may hear a clunk). You can now start shifting down a few gears. If it sticks again, release the clutch a bit more.

It's annoying, but it does happen sometimes and I've never stalled when doing it and can roll down the gears damn quick now when I occasionally have to stop without having time to go down the gears.

when i am coming up to a light i will down shift, when i get to 2nd gear (depending on fast i am going) i will go to first, but if i am rolling up to a light i will put in to neutral and coast up. If you have a problem with getting it into lower gears, just pull the clutch lever a little bit and down shift, you will feel it go into gear.

if you're stopped, to answer your problem, let the clutch out slowly while pushing down on the shifter....it'll pop to the next gear down. then pull in the clutch and keep repeat it all the way down to first. I hope that makes sense.

*don't let clutch all the way out obviously...just until it shifts.
