SHAD or Givi luggage

I plan on purchasing both top and side luggage mounts and would like any input from owners on the good and bad of both brands. Please give opinion on visual appearance and quality. I will be staying with stock exhaust. Thank you.

I haven't decided on a top box yet, but for side cases I am going to use the SW-Motech Quick Lock side carriers with Givi E21 cases. A friend has this system on his Hornet and it works great. I like the fact that they can be installed and removed so quickly and there is virtualy no evidence of the hardware when off. I'm ordering next week, total cost is just north of $400.

I have the Givi V35 side cases on a Givi mount. I have the plate for the topcase, but don't have one yet. Very pleased with the set up. Looks good and functions great.

GIVI... Expensive but good. Only PIA part is installation of the GIVI racks if you get GIVI racks. If you decide on V35s for side cases, they hug the bike like they are stock part of the bike. You can also go with SW-Motechs for V35s since you have a later model bike, but, there are additional limitations for its use (I highly recommend you check that out before you purchase).

No experience with SHAD other than looking at them at a motorcycle show when I was looking to get mine along with other brands. For me, GIVI won, but I am sure there are others around here who likes SHADs.

There are actually other treads on this subject on this forum, so I highly recommend you do a search and read them as well.

After puting on a set of the SHAD 42 side cases a few things that left me less than impressed come to mind. First, the mounting racks are wayyy to far back, makes the front wheel a bit light and the bike handles odd when loaded. Second, it looks (and feels) like I'm riding an elephant, Third, The racks look bad without the hard bags on, Forth - its impossible to start the screws on the upper mount hardware with out stripping them when you install the rack, fifth - really odd signal light relocation, Sixth - general feel is a bit light duty where the cases latch to the rack.

Without real life experience - SW motech mounts and givi cases look like the better, but more expensive option - however I cheaped out on somthing that I didn't think I would use to much...

To do it again I would go for smaller, but higher quality side cases and add a cheap top box for traveling. My 2c.

I went for Kappa hard luggage and my impression is Kappa is a clone of Givi

I didn’t want to mount a top box only the side panniers so I bought the KL351 tubular pannier brackets with 315 mounting kit. The 315 mounting kit is designed to work with the stock exhaust, and admittedly I had to modify these brackets to work with my Two Brothers setup.

Since I only do the occasional overnighter, I opted for the K21N pannier cases. The K21N panniers are well priced and the entire setup cost me around 2000ZAR (265USD)

I’ve only done one overnighter since installing, and there was enough storage space to take along everything I need to overnight.

Givi side and top here, same as Goker.
One of the things I like, and not mentioned, the boxes will not close and lock without the key, so you could not lock the key in the boxes by mistake.
Not sure if all luggage is that way...

Shad. Agree with 616ah that weighting the (large) Shad bags can change handling. But hello, it's a 400# bike. I've thoroughly enjoyed my Shad. They look and are big. I take them off occasionally, but find I leave them on more than I thought. Just makes her look like a sport tourer. I load the crap out of the side cases, with pistol range bags and lots of ammo. Disagree they are lighter duty. They may appear it, but the side cases actually have a metal catch. I do wish the buckle closures were different. All in all, much better value than the Givi since after all when I need to carry stuff I need to carry stuff.
