Not talking about politically correct. I read bible quotes as I would an Edgar Allan Poe quote. I am not offended and see it as philosophical discourse. It can actually be quite enriching if you remove the "religious" aspect of it imo.
The thing that got me to post was the imaginary fear of a perceived threat that doesn't apply to the vast majority of us shouldn't be what anyone should need as motivation to act in a positive manner.
Hence the Fox News thing. That's what they do pretty much all day. It's a train of thought that actually hinders people from "coming alive". It pushes people into boxes in which they feel safe. Hug your children there are bad drugs out there? Of course there are. Send your kids out into the world without fear and soon you will have a generation of mountain climbers and adventure riders spreading aid and love and "coming alive". Don't emotionally castrate them.
Fear mongering and bible quotes tend to work well together. That's why I mentioned it. It's a very American phenomena. It is starting to creep into Canadian media a bit now though but is something that people should resist. All the things that make any of us "come alive" depend on it. I agree very much with your "come alive" sentiment. I just disagree VERY much in the manner in which you are spurring others on.

Sorry Lone 2, "I'm not gonna leave you alone". That was in 1976. The world is still spinning. Trees are still growing. The world is bad now? Sure. But it's always been this way. These are the struggles of existence. Overcoming them should not be spurred on by fear, rather it should be spurred on by excitement with a shimmer in your eye. Live, love, be free. You don't need religion or fear to do this. I will not comment too much on the role of fear in the Bible and the role of the Bible in the development and maintenance of governments in medieval Europe (and how much that may have contributed to the spread of religion). That's something that is relevant here but hashed out plenty over the years in all manners of discourse.

One day the people requesting people be "politically correct" will be the religious individuals. The tide is turning. If this posts gets someone to thinking, hey I might wanna slow down take a look around me, and see how very similar we all are and how trivial our perceived differences are, and then go out and give away his riches and commit his life to helping others and live life with his throttle wide open, then it was a good post. Cliff, that's really rough man. I know it was rough on you because I have seen how much you take things to heart. In the end thats the only way to live. Big heart, right out in the open. His experiences with you no doubt give him inspiration even if you dont know it. Living in darkness, the small bits of light received are amplified in the darkest hours.
He may have been on the edge at times and, when he had almost lost hope, the fact he knew people cared about him may have been what kept him from the abyss.

Edit: but +1 to don't judge others. We are all dealing with our unique struggles in our unique way. If you aren't willing to extend a hand to help someone, at least don't judge. That force of society judging you actually keeps people from helping themselves sometimes and hurts them more. If you can't help, at least don't do harm. This is also why I don't judge religious people. If it gets you through the night, I am not going to kick your crutch out from under you. But walking without crutches? That's the only way to learn how to run!
