Replacing the headlight loom

Hi all,

I'm a new (3 weeks) owner of a 2007 FZ6 S in the UK. Last weekend the right indicators stopped working, I traced this down to a bad wiring repair job on the front-right indicator. In doing this I noticed that the Indicators and plugs for the front indicators have 3 wires, not 2. Looking at my Haynes manual it appears that this is US spec, as they use the indicators as side lights. The part number of my front wiring loom is 5VX-85349-20. I've just ordered a replacement spare from a UK break with the part number 5VX-85349-10. Is the -10 just the EU spec of my harness? Will it need any modification?

I think you mean 84359, not 85349.
Where did you find the -20 part number?

Yes, you are correct, it's 84359. The -20 is on a sticker on the front fairing loom.

The -10 is for a 2 light system, flasher bulb and side marker bulb are separate connectors.
The -20 is for the single bulb (dual filament) system using 3 wire connector.
You will have to modify it and likely need a different socket to mate with the flasher connector.

Hope this might help:
The circuits I've seen for the directional lights are as follows. The OEM Front stalks have a dual filament bulb. One filament is for the running light, usually a blue with red tracer wire. one filament is for the directional signal, a brown or green wire, depending on left or right, and one wire (black) for common ground.
The rear OEM stalks will be the brown or green wire (depending on right or left and a black wire for common ground. The rear stalks only use a single filament lamp because the rear brake light has the running light filament with the brake light filament.

If your bike is a factory naked it may carry the running light (blue wire) to your headlamp unit which may incorporate your running light/s.
Most people who modify directionals to LED do not use the running light in front and just tape the blue and/or blue w/red wires.

Thanks all, the -10 swapped out for the -20 fine. The 2-wire connectors to the indicators mated to the 3-wire connectors on the indicators fine and they work as expected.

So they operate as flasher only now with no side marker function?
If that works for you, great, but just check the regulations where you are; in some places you will get pulled over and ticketed for that.

That's correct, I'm in the UK so I don't believe I need the side marker functionality.

As long as you've got the sidelights ("position lights") each side of the fairing, that's OK for the MOT.

You don't need any at the rear, just the regular rear light.
