Rain, rain, rain

In my infinite wisdom I decide to cruise to Pensacola. I checked the weather and it say 30% chance of isolated thunderstorms. So I plan on taking my rain gear (30% chance, I got to hit the road). I'm out the door and on my way. I'm nicely into my ride not even thinking about rain gear.

I get there, do some crusing around and checking out the area still not thinking about rain gear. I decide it's time to make the trip back and all is going well until.

RAIN, and lots of it. Now I realize that I forgot my rain gear. As I get pretty soaked I stop at an underpass to wait and see if its going to pass. It doesn't so I man up and ride on.

It stops after I go thur a tunnel and I continue to ride and start drying out. I'm like, yes clear skys and warm arm to dry me off.

Yes, you guessed it. As soon as my shirt is fairly dry I hit another patch of rain and get soaked all over again. I ride thur it and get to clearer skys.

By the time I get home my shirt is fairly dry up to but at the waist area and just below I"m still pretty damp.

Lesson learned, to be so fast to hit the road before putting the gear you may think you'll need in your bag.

No, it wasn't the first time I got caught in the rain and it won't be the last. It was however the first time more than an hour away from home.

I wear a Olympia air jacket in the summer heat, the liner is rain proof. Easy to carry if the forecast has a chance of rain. You do wear protective gear, right?

First time more than a hour from home? Mod less-ride more!

Quick and dirty idea is to use a heavy duty trash can bag with cut outs for the arms and head. You can buy them for almost nothing at most full service gas stations. You can wear it under your riding jacket. You won't win any style awards but it works. If it is too cold, you can stuff newspaper under your shirt to help stay warm.

I live in south Florida and this time of the year it rains nearly everyday in the afternoon. I keep getting caught in it and will purchase some rain gear with my next paycheck.

We have gone for ages without rain. This weekend I decide to tear my Mustang apart to do some suspension work and it has rained none stop for the past 3 days and my parts got delayed.

I booked a trip to Ft Myers, Key West and Miami for end of July, 2009. It better not rain when I"M over there. I would like to, maybe, rent a scooter on Key West to putt around. I'm from CA and it DOESN'T rain during the summer, PERIOD! A total disaster would be for a hurricane to move in while I'm over there.

That's riding... You never know. I got hit with a hail storm in the middle of August. That sucks, hail hurts.

It was a good idea to stay under the pass for a bit. Those first few minutes after it starts to rain the road is SUPER slick. All the oil comes right up.
