Question about silver colors

You'll have to check the paint codes as they may seem the same and even look the same when the 2 bikes are parked together but the hue in the 2 paints could be quite different and you would never notice it until the sun hit the paint just right. To me the 2004 is brighter where the 2005 looks more like a light pewter.

I agree. The paint code is really going to be the only way to go. I work in the automotive industry and i cant begin to tell you have many close shades of silver and grays we have.

Absolutely James. From 1990 through 1999 I built limousines for Lincoln and Cadillac. White and black are pretty standard and it would be generally accepted that either should be easy to match. This line of thinking is a huge mistake as there are literally hundreds of combinations for both and especially with regard to white. The color code is as they say, the only way to fly....

I found a good deal on a used 05 silver TCP seat cowl but I ride a silver 04. Hopefully the color will not be "off" too much. We'll see. I'll probably be able to notice, but hopefully only if I look close or the sun hits it just right.

Hmmm, why not just paint it to match or go black?

OK... so I received the TCP seat cowl that I bought off ebay and yes, the 05 and 04 silver are quite different to the nekid eye. I went by MAACO today to get a quote on getting it painted. At first they told me they couldn't do it because they only paint cars. After I pressed the guy for a bit, he made a call and found the color I needed. He then proceeds to tell me that it's going to cost me $125 bucks. That seems way too expensive to me for some reason. I told him so and left. Am I being unreasonable...I've never gotten anything painted "professionally". Someone give me some perspective on this. Paying $125 to paint this small peice of plastic seems way over priced.
I'm also thinking about painting it black myself, but I'm not sure exactly what I'd need to do (prep, type of paint, etc). Any advice on this would be helpful too.

Thanks in advance
