Earlier this week, rolling my FZ6 out of the garage, I noticed that somebody vandalized my tank. Aren't people wonderful! This was either done in Reno at the Grand Sierra Casino parking lot
(parked next to a dual sport and two Harley full dress) or in my work parking lot. I highly suspect it was the person I happened to notice around the bikes in Reno.

People are great. It reassures me when I read about people doing thousands and thousands of dollars damage just so they can recyle some copper wiring, etc., to "earn" some money.

Once in San Francisco, after lunch and returning to the my mother's new Toyota, my brother and mother, and I (we earlier saw an individual near the vehicle but didn't think anything of it) noticed that
there was now an indentation on the body near a rear door (obvious vandalism done by striking with a blunt object).

I have always taken pride in taking care of my FZ6. I've only dropped it once since purchasing it new in Nov, 2006. When working on the bike, I take care especially when working around the tank
because I know how easy, if one is not careful, to accidently scratch or dent the tank.

Somebody who I never met or knew had nothing better to do than vandalize my tank and slam a fist down on the tank so now I have this cupped indentation on it for life. I suppose I could file a claim
under comprehensive insurance but, really, do I want to go through with all that?

People suck, don't they?

Time for a new bike!

That really blows, I use a light weight bike cover when on the road as it seems people won't mess with a covered bike-I hope.

Perhaps one of dent repair companies can pop that back out.

today i passed a parked motorcycle ... i'm pretty sure that the guy/girl that parked it left it standing next to the tree and not tipped over against it, and i'm also pretty sure that whoever did it is looooong gone.

Take it to a body shop or hail repair shop. I know that there are some techniques using dry ice to pop dents back out.

not to be a downer but are you sure it was a act of vandalizm? i have a very similar dent in my tank that came from my knee after a wheelie. Not trying to call you a liar or anything like that, it just seems kinda odd that some random person would come up and punch a gas tank. i mean if they wanted to damage it why no kick it over?

FWIW i didnt recal seeing my dent until a week after i did it

Yes they do... I guess all that matters now, is what you plan to do. Look at it this way at least it's not a $20,000 bike. I am sure it will all work out, dude.

At least tell me you had a good time at Hot August Nights. I would say the rib cook off, but thats this weekend I think in Reno.

Nope, no doubt about it. It was vandalism. Picking between knocking a bike over or slamming a fist down, what a choice. Just like what somebody did to our (at the time) new car. Vandalism---it's not easy to "understand."

Yes! That dent looks like a dry ice candidate if I ever saw one.
The secret to the dry ice is to heat the surface either in the hot sun or use a hair dryer to heat the area. Then apply dry ice to the high areas of the dent. The contact must transfer heat from those high areas as quickly as possible so keep the dry ice in constant contact. What happens is a shrinking effect that causes the low area of the dent to rise and hopefully pop back out again. So get the surface as warm as possible first, then shock it with the dry ice.

yeah i guess it would be kinda hard not to know if you did it, i know i hda a bruise on my knee for a week lol

as far as repair goes, i have seen people seal off the tank and presurize it to blow the dents out, at least on a klr it worked.

Sadly, I agree with you. I recently lost a glove, 10min later I searched for it and it was gone, the store's lost and found, everywhere. My take, without God there are, if not no, certainly less morals. Chin up, I think this can be fixed by reducing the dent and covering it with a tank protector. Cut one out yourself if necessary. We had some vandalism in our parking lot at work recently. Two Toyota Tacomas scratched, dented and spray painted. I have a Tacoma also. Luckily I ride the bike to work 99% of the time. People really do suck. Never did find out who did it.

Seeing as it was in a parking lot is it possible that there is some CCTV footage of the attack ??? Mindless vandals :spank: :spank: If you find them this WHOLE forum will line up behind you for a turn

Unfortunately, no, there were no cameras (huge parking lot) that I noticed. I always look for a parking space with camera coverage. Strangely, before picking the parking spot, I eyed the valet parking area (covered and attendants with busy attendants around) and noticed two bikes parked there. I figured that meant a tip and so, being a cheapskate, parked about 100 feet away. it was near the front entrance. Next time I visit this casino, I think I'll think different. Once outside a (Walmart?), I noticed that somebody had parked a melting ice cream cone upside down on somebody's gas tank. In a way, animals have more decency, less mischief than humans. People suck

Paintless dent removal

This definitely looks like a suitable job for the paintless dent removal folks. Those guys can really work some magic!
