Has anyone in the FZ6 community designed and built their own? Pics? I have searched to no avail! Other websites do have their own ingenious ideas. I am looking at trying to modify their ideas to my own. Just curious and looking for some trial and error advice before I end up with my own!

Well here is an update. With the help of ideas from other forums I decided to do a cardboard mock-up of what I wanted.

I also asked a couple of forum members who were welders to see if they could help in my quest. I am currently going to be getting a heck of a deal on some aluminum panniers! Now I have have to figure out a way to either custom fab up some racks or suck it up and buy some from Givi...

If you want real penny tech I've seen pictures of someone using plastic cat litter containers on their Rebel. :) It didn't even look as bad as you may think.

The aluminum panniers look great and hold a lot. I'm not sure if I've seen them on a FZ6 before. I'd be interested in seeing how it looks when you're done.

I saw your posts on the "other forum". It looks like a great concept at a good price. If you want to make another set, let me know!;)
I have a Givi rear rack, so i'd be adding the side racks for whatever panniers i choose next. The givis seem to be teh cheapest option. I like the durability option of the pelican/carabou cases, but they are quite a bit more expensive.

Very nice. If you choose, many people go with givi racks and the happy trails pannier system mounts for mounting aluminum cases. I was going to go that route until i found a cheap set of givi bags.

:spank::spank::spank::spank::spank:

NO NO NO! Not on an FZ6. Get yourself a BMW GS or KTM Adventure if you are gonna mount those on a bike.

edit:

your build quality looks really good, though.

I now have to figure out how to mount them. My buddy and I are going to look and brain storm this problem.

I don't want the aluminum only. I want the added hardening of the liner. I just want some smooth stuff so I can put a sticker or two on it but think I'll be S.O.L..

you could do powdercoating. wouldn't add to the stuctural rigidity but would be a nice hard finish.

nicely done.
are you putting any rubber gasket for the top lid to close down on for waterproofing?
i can imagine it in black like the one the busa, that might work on the fz.
what is the capacity of the final case that you made?
any plans in making a top case version?

I like the idea. I can't wait to see the final pics.

I have been torn about the idea of saddlebags / top racks. Backpacks are annoying, and my cargo net (with plastic hooks) scratches my grab handles. ...And i don't have anywhere to store jacket / textile pants on summer days. ...very tempting, but not terribly sporty. Hmmm....

Will probably succumb to the convenience one of these days...when I have some money. :)
