Am I alone in thinking the oil cooler is incredibly ugly with the black engine?

I'm surprised that nobody has made a sexy, finned after-market part.

Anybody tried painting it black?

Leave it bare, it will transmit heat to the air better.
Great idea on some sort of aftermarket finned deal for better cooling!

We had a group riding across the desert for a bit yesterday and temp was 109F!

Somebody makes finned aluminum clamp on heat sinks for car oil filters, just find one that is the right diameter.

You're absolutely correct... it's hideous on the black engine. I believe it's actually an intercooler too, so painting would probably have negligible effect on cooling.

Fins are unneeded on this part as the oil cooler is LIQUID cooled by the engine coolant!! The design oil temp is a constant 205°F.

Paint it black, put decals on or wrap it with insulation if you want, it won't affect operation.

Good to know. I had been wondering just yesterday when I was cleaning the bike if what they referred to as the oil cooler was an oil-to-coolant interface like you said or if it just sent the oil through another loop in the radiator, like a tranny cooler on a car. Guess that answers it, thanks!

I shall paint it black and get back to you when I have pictures...

If you put great big cooling fins on it the front of the bike would look like a FS1E! Well, apart from the downpipes and radiator in front of the 'motor' of course...

Mods so far include removing all the stickers (not a problem here in Cyprus, bikes don't even need a 'MoT') and the rear footpegs.

I've ordered twin headlight mod, frame sliders, tail tidy and Philips xenon bulbs...

I'm agonising over a new seat or a cowl...
