Yea I would DEFFINATELY shorten them down if I was you. Shouldn't be to hard to accomplish with a Dremel and rivets.

You should send a PM to Wolfman. He shortened up a set of Two-bros (if I remember correctly) and they turned out awesome...

It would be interesting to hear the sound. Those cans are designed for a 2 cylinder bike so the sound waves will be very unique if they are plonked onto a 4 cylinder bike. You might lose some power though.
Be that as it may, I think that those will look the beez neez! Almost better looking than Leo's, especially if you are attempting to slant them inwards a bit as they are on the Duke!

Finally finished and back on the road.
The length of the cans is definetly a personal preference thing. So far it's been pretty much a 50/50 split between those that like them long and those that think they need shortened. The subframe stops the cans from being tilted like on the 1098 so they have to be running horizontally .
I like them so for now they'll be staying full length (I think the numberplate balances it out just enough)
So from this:

Overall cost was about £180 or $285 USD So a little cheaper than getting lucky on evilbay and getting a set of cheap pre-owned cans.
To be honest I don't know if it's been done before but I like to think it's a first with 1098 cans.
Here are some pics and a video. The video was taken from my phone and it has made the exhaust note change a bit, the bike sounds nice and bassy in real life when ticking over.

Sorry about the bump.
Gonna be pulling the back end apart in the coming week to cut the cans down and possibly look at the internal baffled as well.
Looking forward to seeing the shorter version if truth be told. Will post pics when it starts again.

Finally got the time to get this started again.
Pulling the back end of the bike off was a lot easier the second time round. Just a case of lifting the seat, removing the side pods, taking 4 bolts out and undoing a couple of light connectors.
Then all I had to do was undo the clamps holding the cans on and then lift up the pillion handhold assembly to get to the exhaust strap bolts and undo those.
Once those were undone I pulled the cans off and set about pulling them apart again exactly as before.
It was then onto cutting them down. I decided to cut 110mm off each can (4 and a smidge inches) I was going to Dremel them down but it barely managed to tickle the can so out came the hacksaw and that was worse so a quick couple of calls later I was headed down to a metalwork business to get them cut down on a giant metal saw. Cost for that was £10 ( $15 dollars and change)
So now I have a pair of cut down cans waiting fitting.
I quickly jammed and end can on and stuck it on the bike. Gone from this:

Sorted. What a bitch of a job that was with a drill that kept running out of battery and not enough drill bits. Finally managed it after my neighbour bailed me out with a corded monster drill.
Had to pluck out the exhaust sound proofing with an Allen key to make space for the caps to go back on but after that it was a case of drilling loads of holes and riveting up the cans.
What a cracking note comes off them now. Will get a sound check video up hopefully tomorrow.

Can you do the CO mod on a 2004? If so i'd recommend it. It made a difference when i put an exhaust on my bike.
