New, strange problem. Maybe triple tree?

Does anyone else notice this or have or had this problem.

When I put my bike up on the center stand and take the weight off the front tire there is play in the center of the triple tree. If I stand in front of the bike and hold the front tire and pull towards my body there is a little play in the whole front wheel fork assembly. It looks like there is a little play in the center of the triple tree. Any ideas? I can't get any play from the top (the handle bars).

My brother says it was shuddering/shaking at around 80 mph. I haven't noticed it but it's probably because its happened slowly and I got used to it as I was riding. I haven't taken it for a ride yet, but now I'll probably notice it.

But it definitely has play in it. Is it supposed to have play?

I think what you're experiencing is the infamous steering head bearing issue. If you use the search you should find several threads about it, how and what you need to fix it, etc!

+1 on the steering head bearings..... Any movement fore/aft or side-side is a Bad Thing.

It will only get worse.

You can try adjusting them(tightening them) but their probably toast due to the age of the bike...
