New member with new FZ6

Hi everyone, new FZ rider here and I thought I'd introduce myself.

First off, I'm a n00b with about 3k miles of riding experience since this past November. I completed the MSF BRC and then got my first bike, an '07 SV650S, put 2500 miles on it and traded it for my new FZ. I got the faster blue color, it came shod with Michelin Pilots :thumbup: and since Friday I've put about 200 miles on it already up in the North GA mountain region.

Secondly, this is a great forum and i've learned some things already just from lurking about. I don't agree with some that maintain the FZ is a "great beginner bike", it is NOT a beginner's bike in the least. This isn't a bike I'll outgrow anytime soon, it is refined and fast, smooth and comfortable and looks great to boot. The throttle and clutch can be a little touchy, hence all the more reason i don't think it should be a n00b's first bike. I love it already though, I wouldn't want any other bike. The best part about it for me is that I ended up with a better financial deal getting off the SV, so that really makes the upgrade even sweeter.

Now on to looking for mods...

I just got my new '08 too! I've averaged about 85 miles a day in the four days I've owned it. I definitely agree with you, this is not a beginner's bike. I started on a GS500F and I'm glad I did. The touchyness of this bike can be tricky in low speed turns. It's got plenty enough power too, no point in getting anything bigger if you plan on obeying the speed limit.

I got me a FZ6 this spring too and love it. Good choice (though I went with the faster red color myself)...

I've heard that the SV650 is a very good bike as well, and often scores higher in comparison reviews. What's your take on the two?

A recent Mid Sized Naked Comparo in Australia, rated the FZ6 as the best of the Japanese offering's, and put it n par with Triumph's Street triple in terms of engine performance, but the triumph just got the nod in terms of suspension & brakes.

The SV was given an honourable mention as a great value, but rather sedate option in terms of performance...

The FZ6N was rated as the surprise package of the lot, which included the Kwaka ER6N, Aprillia Shiver, Ducati Monster, and the Honda naked....cant remember what it's called!

The reviewer could not believe how Yamaha could pack so much bike into such a small price....

I'm glad you're enjoying the FZ6 - damn fine bike. I bought my 2004 model late last year as my first bike - getting better every day. It seems like the sort of bike that grows with the riders ability - like most bikes I suppose - but that doesn't mean a newcomer can't enjoy it. It is a softer option than the track happy R6 or some of the more lairy superbikes which is probably why some people think it is a good beginners bike.
