new fz6 running hot

I bought a new 07 fz6 about 2 weeks ago. I have put 550 miles towards the break in period so far and it seems to run hot. I live near St. Louis so the temp is normally around 85 this time of year. At speeds of 60-70 it runs at approximately 183 degrees! Is this normal for the fz6?

Hi Nick - First off, welcome to the forum.

You are fine at 183, especially for the summer time. I've seen as high as 217 sitting at a light in 100 degree heat. At highway speeds I'm between 178ish and 190ish.

yes, im not sure about the 07 but should be the same as the 08 look in the owners manual and when it is too hot the temp bars will turn to a "H" for high just like when you first turn it on it says "L" for low. in traffic let it sit and around 205-215 you should hear/feel the fan kick on.

183 degrees? or do u mean Farenheit?

Initially when running on on mineral, bike is hotter and fuel milage is lower. U should able to see some difference once uyou switch over fully synthetic engine oil.

Owners Manual LIT-11626-20-60, page 3-3:

40-116 °C (104-242 °F) OK. Go ahead with riding.

Mine runs much the same anywhere from 165-205 °F.

Absolutely fine and the guys are right, once you have about 1200 miles on it and she's totally broken in and you switch to synthetic oil, you'll run several degrees cooler. You're well within normal.
