my FZ6 crapped out on me

So now we are all worried about our plugs LOL, can some one more mechanically minded than I do a pictorial how to change the FZ6 plugs.

a clogged fuel injector would also caused similar problems so it's not the plugs 100%. There can be other factors. On that note I like to replace my plugs every 4K so I can get the best performance out of the engine.

100% spark plugs. I have had alot of issues with spark plugs with motors. Ngk and champion plugs are total crap. throw some nd iridium in there and be done. Like someone previosly stated, these high performance motors of today just eat through plugs. All the bad stuff in gas, the higher compression, advanced timing, higher rpm's just eat through plugs. You can have a plug that idles fine and drives fine, but once you put some juice to it you will get a misfire, this is caused by spark blowout. When a plug gets old it doesnt have the power that it used to. Just think of putting a candle in front of you and blowing on it, it will blow out. A old spark plug does the same.

If it's not a low battery, start checking the electrical connectors to the fuel pump. Maybe one is loose. Hopefully the loose connection is not inside the tank.

Time to chip in with one of the two mechanical things I know about the FZ6. The fuel pump is really easy to get to and remove. There are no fuel pump connections in the tank its self. I have three FZ6 tanks two empty and stripped down.

I thought that joke was lame, so I changed my text to the right answer. Sparkplugs. Those WILL cause violent staggers if even one starts to fail.

The problem is electrical. Fuel problems will never cause violent staggers (unless you're using low octane by accident, which I doubt). Especially if you already ran it down half the tank.

CanadianFZ6 would be very happy to see me banned. If you want to make him happy, then by all means go for it. You may want to make a decision quick however, because Raid wants to do something about the bullying.

I'm worried too now all of the sudden. I heard ours are a pain to get to, though we have the socket for it in the tool bag under the seat.

I'll make a video of the nightmare that changing the plugs looks to be. I can get to two of them without too much problems but the other two look to be challenging.

The plugs are not that bad to change. There are a couple that are a little tight but no problem.

Both times I replaced the plugs they seemed to be gapped already right out of the box. I did double check them and a couple were off by a couple of thousands. So it does pay to check.

well I finally got around to changing the spark plugs, cylinders 1 and 4 were showing more wear than 2 and 3. I'll take it to work tomorrow to see how it runs. I think that solved the problem though, the bike starts easier than it used to. hopefully all's well. if so, it will be new tires on saturday. like I've said before these tires got one more ride in um :noworries:


sorry no video; I followed the link posted earlier. 3 and 4 are easy 2 is kinda tight #1 is a pain in the arse. but even than it only took about 20-30 minutes from start to start

sportrider_fz6 : Don't you have a Carb synchronizer tool ?? I thought I read in past threads that you did ? If you do or you can get one you can use it to figure out what cylinder is giving you trouble it might make your overall diag easier .. If you got gas at a station not known to you may have got a hot shot of ethanol . that happens allot in cars and to repair we drain tank and change filter and fill with fresh fuel .. Don't rule out ethanol it can also foul the plugs ... Good luck
