My first post = Mods

My first post; I bought a 2005 FZ6 last week with 500 miles on it. It sat obviously, so I changed the gas, new battery, new oil, tire pressure and it fired right up. After a 100 mile test ride I strapped on a duffle bag, sleeping bag, and pad and went for a 1100 mile two nighter with three other Buds. Thats 1000 miles of backroads, only about 80 miles were freeway. With a few lessons on canyon turns, I felt great. BTW, I am a seasoned MXer and Enduro racer.

I have done hours of searching but still want input from experience. What I learned and want to Mod before next trip:

- Need a Cruise control. I want simple and reliable. Which one?

- Want more wind protection. My buddies Ducati ST2 had a different shaped
windshield, just as low, but definately less turbulance. What is the best solution for a 5'8" rider?

- Which frame sliders? Do they really double as footrests?

- Is there a one seater or two seater set up that has a built in trunk? It needs to be less than $250.00

- The dial Tach is useless when going wide open speed and the number tach is too small. Is there a simple mod that you can see?

- Is a heated vest the best warmth for the buck?

First off... welcome to the FZ6 Forum.

In reply to cruise control, Throttlemeister makes a good throttle lock. It's not a cruise control but a throttle lock. I owned one for a while and loved the easy of rolling the throttle back while on the freeway and then locking it with the Throttlemeister.

My legs are too long to use my sliders as footrests. I have rested my calves on them but that isn't comfortable for long. One thing I have done on longer rides that saves my buttcheeks from too much fatigue is to occasionally slide left far enough for my knee to bear on the left slider, leaving my right foot up in the air, and vice versa. Works best on LONG straights where visibility is good and traffic is light.

I have a Throttle lock but no cruise control in the literal sense. I use a NEP throttle lock with a small adapter plate (if you call it that) that I made in order to use it. It sits in a slightly different position, but works like a champ.
