My coldest ride yet

Today was my coldest ride yet. It was about 34*F when I left the house this morning. I was quite comfortable actually. The only thing that really got cold were the tip of my right thumb and middle finger. I have a 17 mile commute with mostly 35-45mph roads and one 2 mile stretch of highway at 55mph.

My gear:
Powermadd Handguards with extensions
Oxford Heaterz heated grips
Firstgear Explorer gloves
Fieldsheer Tour Temp TX jacket with liner
Balaclava
Nylon golf rain pants over fleece track pants over jeans
Wool socks
LL Bean hiking boots.

I own a pair of Fieldsheer Adventure pants that are really nice but had to return them for warranty replacement as the stitching came loose. I haven't received the new pair yet which is why I improvise with the golf pants. I have to say the golf pants work great to block the wind. I also have some Alpinestars boots on order but won't receive them until some time in January.

What's the coldest temps you guys will ride in and how do you prepare?

I've dipped into the single digits once, but it doens't get THAT cold here too often. I'm not afraid of it though. I've done teens quite a few times.

It was upper 20s this morning, and after raining all day yesterday, I pulled the clutch in and coasted across the bridges, just in case...

You can do a search for "cold weather gear" and come up with a post I did on all my gear, mostly on the cheap, but very effective and not too bad looking :thumbup:

Coldest I have ever riden (for trips, short commuting trips not counting) is around 30F, 0C degrees. The most painfull part? I did it with my A* GP pro gloves and Gaerne racing boots. F'n noob :spank:

But the cordura pants&jackets with the liners installed gave me no hard time in the cold. This year I bought Oxford heaterz and spidi H2OUT gloves. I hope I will manage better

I live in the hills surrounding the City i live in....reularly ride in 0 degrees C, or a little less...could not do it without my Oxford heated grips, handguards, glove liners, winter gloves, thermals, qulited, windproof jacket & pants, and neck sock...but with all the right gear, i sorta dont mind the cold...hate wind more....much more!

It was cold for me last week but as long as you get wrapped up and it is sunny then it is great.

Luckily for me, my commute to work is only 2.5 - 3 miles. Even though it takes almost no time to get there, it can get quite chilly. Regardless, I still bundle up (still need to get thermal bottoms) and head out. After riding to work one morning at 19 degrees F, I decided that even though I'm close to work, I'm going to have to limit my riding to 25 degrees F or higher.

My ride to work this morning was 30 miles in 16 degree weather at 80mph..... A bit chilly but still fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fieldsheer Jacket, Firstgear TPG pants and Firstgear Gloves......

Last year in november I did a ride from Aalborg to Copenhagen, like 300Km in -10C/14F.

Just had my normal IXS jacket and pants on, and a pair of winter gloves from Rukka. I'll admit that the last 50Km was kinda cold, - but othervice it was not that bad.
The last 50Km there was also snow/ice on the road, which meant that average speed was ranging from 5km/h to 50km/h.

So All in all not the most pleasent ride, - but kinda cool to have done it once you get the feeling back in your toes and fingers

My coldest has been about 40 so far..took it out Wednesday after putting sta-bil in the tank to run it through, went around the neighborhood area and down to the train station. Fieldsheer jacket, leather gloves, boots and jeans. Honestly, everything but my feet and hands stayed warm. I never got cold in the jacket, neck was a bit cold, legs were ok from engine heat (i make it a point to keep the RPMs up when i'm out in the cold..otherwise the damn thing will cool off and the tach will start blinking on me!), However, my feet and hands were about numb when i got back! My own fault..i ride in regular boots and my gloves are thin leather that are great for warm weather...

I rode out the other night in 38 degree (F) temp @ 80mph for about 45 mins. My body and legs were fine, just my fingers and feet were cold.

Yes, I layered, but still, my extremeties were frozen! I can't imagine some of you folks out there who ride in temperatures colder than that! Perhaps I should invest in some electrics =)

It was -1C or 30F on my morning commute this morning. 45 mins @ 70 km/h / 45 mph. Suffice to say my digits were beginning to really hurt by the time I got to work. I have some highly unattractive bar muffs in the post so will be fitting them later this week. :rockon:
