My birthday present

Yesterday my 50th year on this here planet came to an end, good riddance (it was not a good year for me); I really wanted to do something special and hopefully change my luck a bit.
I took a bit out of my savings account, and did this:



Debt-free for the first time in my life! :cheer: Felt pretty damn good!

Very cool and congratulations on accomplishing something many folks would leave to do but can't find the determination or urgency. I take debit very seriously as it can cause great undue stress on one's life.

I have been in a debit reduction mode for the last several years and I am getting there. This coming Thursday I will pay off my second car ($5,100) with my annual incentive bonus. That will leave me with several thousand on credit cards and my mortgage.

Awesome! am only 25 but school loans are paid for, bike was paid for in less than a year 08xb paid off in 3 years. Debt free since 8/2010. But working on buying a house so my time is just starting....

congratulations. my wife and i are working at getting debt free (except for our house). we're taking financial peace university right now. we figure it should take us about a year an a half. can't wait to be debt free.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I remember when I was 18 and debt free. Those were the days!! Now I'm 25 and making triple payments on student loans and extra mortgage payments. Hoping to get there again someday sooner rather than later.

If anybody is interested go pick up a great book by Dave Ramsey called Total Money Makeover. It's a great book that gives some really good strategies.

I did the Dave Ramsey Peace University program and it really helped me get focused and have support. The process is easy, but the program helps reinforce the need to be debit free and all the benefits that come with a debit free life style. I was fed up with trying to pay down credit cards and other debits only to see them keep growing. We had to make major life style changes. We stopped taking vacations and cut up credit cards but not the accounts. Paid off and closed all the little BS accounts. My wife would not get on board but I just forged forward without her, she is now seeing the benefits.

Hubby and I are just in the process of selling our mortgage-free house and buying a new one with a brand-new mortgage! Gah!!

On the plus side though, the new house has a triple garage... room for more bikes!!
