Most Cost Effective Shock Upgrade?

I want to upgrade the shocks (front and rear) on my bike. What is the best way to do it without spending a fortune? Are used Ohlins or Penskes ever on Ebay or anywhere else, and if so, are used shocks worth buying? What other shocks besides Ohlins and Penske are decent quality?

I dont really think I want to do the R6 mod because I dont want to change the fittings on the bike. I'd really like it to just bolt in.

Is there a way to upgrade the shocks for about $500 or less?

The least expensive solution is to simply change out the Ft and Rr springs. It's about $250.00 or so, without labor. Hyperpro | Suspension Technology , RT HP FORK SPRINGS

Then you've got emulator and springs as the next step for the front. GOLD VALVE OVERVIEW

Followed by R6 forks, then the cartridge kits, Traxxion Dynamics - Fork Related

For shocks, the Penske 8900E is a very nice shock for $550, after that you're looking at $725 for an Ohlins, or the better Penske.

can you upgrade the front suspension with anything high end by ohlins without changing the forks? arent the forks the only suspension members on the front end?

Your best bang for the buck upgrade is going to be the combi-kit from Hyperpro. It replaces the springs (front/back) and the fork oil. It's not going to perform like a $700 shock and swapped out front end, but it'll perform at 80% of that. For real world riding, it's more than sufficient.

Hyper Pro is the way I'm going then. $300 for upgraded suspension is a no brainer.
