So I made a mistake, a screwup some might call it. I took off my exhaust and midpipe. And when I went to put it all back together the "weave" like material on the midpipe where it hooks up to the header pipe got all mangled and screwed up. Not thinking smartly, cause I had smashed it all up and made a mess out of it and I couldn't fit the header pipe back into the midpipe, I ripped it all out. <---- MISTAKE. Well first mistake was too hastily putting it back together, second was ripping that material out.

So long story short, the midpipe doesn't tighten to the header pipe anymore. Whatever that material is, which I have no idea what it is called, and my limited knowledge isn't helping in google searches, was filing a gap that I now have.

Is there anything that I can substitute for it? Or am I stuck buying a new midpipe. I believe, is they make such a thing, I can just wrap it around the header pipe and then insert that into the midpipe, tighten it up and call it good. Well that's what I am hoping for.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. You should be able to order the gasket from Yamaha. Part No. 3XW-14714-00-00 (2004 - 2006) or 5VY-14740-00-00 (2007 - 2009)

RAD!! Thanks! A $13 gasket (heck I couldn't figure out what it was or what to even call it) is a heck of a lot better than I thought. You rock!
