March 2012 Fuel Expenditures

Thanks Adrian.

I wonder if your lower economy is because you ride naked? (fairing for the win!)

LOL!

No doubt you're a more spirited rider than me - my bike is more of a commuter.

(having said that, even with today's spirited riding, I still got over 18.8k/L)

Cheers,
Rick

OK first thing, i knew i would be terrible at keeping receipts :spank:

so i dont have exact litres or times, but i have been keeping a note of how much i been filling up and after the local bike meet on tuesday night and filling up again afterwards i have now spent

£53.90 on go go juice. Still 3 weeks to go

New fill up, after the ride today. (full, ready for work)

173.7kms (108mi)
8.53L (2.25 US Gal)
$13.29

Totals updated

after another full up yesterday i am now on £75.50. But with another bike meet tomorrow i might require another top up.

Any idea on how many miles or kms that might be?

As per my initial post, thus far this month, I've traveled 1488.5kms (925mi) on 75.74L (20.01US Gal, 16.67Imp Gal) for $120.35 ($US127.04 or £81.14/€96.47)

Be interesting to see a comparison, km/L (mpg) or c/km (p/mi).

Cheers,
Rick

That's alot of calculations for one post. It looks like you have the longest commute in the world.
I will not be riding much at all this month. I have taken time off to be with my family since my father-in-laws death.
Good luck.

198.5 kms .....411.1 kms

There's a lot of different cultures, using a lot of different (and perhaps antiquated) units of measure.

I don't think it's the longest, but it's a bit over an hour each way.

I have taken time off to be with my family since my father-in-laws death.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, I wish you and your family well during this difficult time.

Rick

well i have filled the tank twice so on about £43 i have done about 280 miles. Then i put 3/4 tank in last tuesday wich gave me about 105 miles

so all in all about 385 miles for the £75 (i think) it might be to early to work things out lol, let me know if you think that sounds right :D

For a lot of riders an hour in the saddle is a road trip lol.
My commute is 24km and on a good day I can do it in 18 minutes.

My figures are going to be kind of weird, I'm moving to Boise Idaho this week, so my next fuel figures will be from another city and state. My normal riding habits will be or has been disrupted for a week to say the least. At the moment, looks like the price of regular fuel is $3.97 a gallon as of today, the 21st of March.

Oops - forgot to enter my fill-up here! (it's on Fuelly)

20/03/2011
328.6kms
16.79L @ $1.63/L
$27.37

Finally got a few days off work, so wont have to fill up for a few days (hopefully Tuesday next week)

Cheers,
Rick

Rick, a question...

In the screenshot of the spreadsheet you use to calculate your fuel info, it shows that one time you filled up with just over 20 litres, but from what I understand the FZ tank only holds 19.4 litres? I'm guessing you continue filling slowly once the fuel reaches the bottom of the tanks spout to get extra in, or am I wrong? I'm very tempted to start doing this to get some extra range, but am a little worried about not giving the fuel enough room to expand if it happens to.

Well spotted Mate, but have a look to the right, and you'll see that was for two fills. (one before, and one after a ride with The Wolfman)

Cheers,
Rick

P.S. And yes, after the filler stops, I do actually keep filling, slowly, to try and get as much as possible in - usually another 500ml (or 10kms worth!)

EDIT: Quoted from the 4th of March:

2nd and 3rd fill ups today (after a spirited ride with Wolfman!)

2nd: 294.8kms, 14.7L, $1.588/L ($23.28)

3rd: 109.3kms, 5.82L, $1.584/L ($9.24)
