Making a book

I am considering putting a book together of the FZ6.

I am considering it because mainly i have seen some great photos of FZ6s taken by FZ6 riders and think they would look great all together in a book.

I would also include the development of the FZ6 from 2004 to the present, items about racing, touring, customising, aftermarket parts and general riding. Maybe a few of the main "How to`s"

What else would the members like to see in a book? Any ideas are welcome.

I would be approaching members on here to ask if I could publish their photographs in the book and Admin if I were to use the "How to`s"

If I put this together the book would be published in the USA but everyone could log on and buy one via the net.

So any ideas of what to put in it and what to call the book apart from FZ6 either answer on here or PM me.

I think it could be an interesting winter project.

Great idea, there is a wealth of info re FZ6's out there, not just in this forum....As you would probably already know, FZ6's are everywhere in Europe.

I would happily contibute anything i could to help, re photo's, etc, etc.

Anything you produce \\"original\\" will be great. Just don't use this site and take the collective knowledge from here. [COLOR=\\"Red\\"]There have been a few people over the years try and \\"use\\" forums for just such endeavors. It never turned out good for the would be author.[/COLOR] Good luck though and give credit where credit is due.

I'd start from the beginning of the FZ6 family and any other bikes that led to it's development, including economic and cultural needs/wants and go from there.

Can you expand on this part of your message Bill.

I certainly do not want to stand on anyones toes by doing this.

Writing anything "Original" about the FZ6 would be almost imposible as this forum, plus 3 others I am a member of run 24 hours a day 365 days a year. If there is something that has not already been written about in those forums then I would like to know what it is. My initial plan is to try and convice some of the guys who took the photos I mentioned to donate them to the book and then work around those.

Credit would obviously be given where it is due and permission would have to be obtained before I put anything on paper.

In the how to section, have someone that has done the mod take close up pictures of how exactly they did it, pictures in How To's are amazing IMHO :thumbup:

If I was you or you was I then we would incorporate something a little more personal into the book besides general information.

We would be more willing to 'read' something that has a story. Our suggestion would be to tell your story of our FZ6 and incorporate the other facts around it. We would even suggest the way you organize the print on the page is to vertically center your story and above and below it include breakouts.

Included above and below the print
-Picture of car in distance picture
-Picture of single headlight on bike
-Picture of dual headlights on bike
-A caption with Yamaha's thinking
-A schematic or two on how to perform a dual headlight mod
-Pictures from the seat on what a single vs dual headlight looks like

Tell of a trip you went on and include pictures and diagrams of the bike, mods, problems, scenary, etc.... give the reader some reason to read it rather than reading the manual

Here's a really cool book that you could model your book off of: The Cult of Vespa - Gingko Press (contributors - Umberto Eco, Omar Calabrese, Maurizio Bettini, Tommaso Fanfani) | Uppers Culture Books & Magazines

"The Cult of Vespa". The book is so cool, not only the Vespa but how the book itself is made.

It obviously talks about the history of the scooter, popular people who rode one, the "chic"ness of them, etc. Very much a cultral review of the 40's to the 90's.

Granted you've only got a few years of FZ6 to work with but there are a lot over bikes that built the foundation for our bike.

Sounds like a fun project to me. :thumbup:
