Do you know what the max weight it can hold is? I need something that can hold 40 pounds, and the passenger grab bars don't seem that strong.

They can hold that. I don't remember the specs on the sheet though. It's made to take a top box, I don't see it having a problem with 40 lbs. The mount uses the whole grab bar so it's not like it's a two inch clamp that will break in the middle.
