Looks vs comfort/handling?

Recently got into a sort of pissing contest with a friend of mine whose boyfriend just bought a victory vegas jackpot. Nice bike, but not my type..i don't do cruisers. She's all about the looks of it, whereas i'm in it for comfort and handling. As she put it, bikes aren't supposed to have rear seats (the Vegas didn't have one to speak of..its more like half an ass pad), whereas the fizzer has a halfway decent rear seat, though my wife would much prefer if i got an FJR as my next ride..she's quite fond of the seat on the one i was sitting on at the dealer. Wanted to see what everyone elses opinion on this was. Are you in it just for looks, comfort be damned, or in it for the full package?

I would never buy a bike just for looks but then again I would probably not buy a bike that I didn't find attractive. Usually most people can find a good compromise but sometimes you can't.

My wife hates the looks of sport bikes so purchased a cruiser. Now a year later she wishes she had purchased a sportsbike because they are lighter, have better brakes, and handle better. She still dislikes the looks enough that even now she probably won't switch. We have looked at a ton of bikes but sometimes looks and performance are at odds for the rider.

No one ever wins that argument. Some think cruisers aren't real bikes and some think sport bikes aren't real bikes either. Before I knew anything about bikes, I wanted a sport bike (sexy,fast, women, etc.). Then when I learned to ride, I only wanted a cruiser (comfort, strong low-end torque, relaxed, woman on back, etc.). So I got the cruiser -- loved it. Sport bikes got me curious because there are things you can do on them that you cannot on a cruiser, so I got one of those too. I still love the cruiser.

I wouldn't want to do without one or the other. If I had to get rid of one, I'd miss the other. In the end, don't bother with this type of argument because in the end, the best bike is the one the arguer owns.

The Vegas I'm sure is nice but it doesn't do it for me.

People enjoy motorcycle and riding for different reasons. I've learned to enjoy as many aspects of motorcycling as possible and now I have a fuller more fun experience with riding. I'll pull into the local apple pie place where all the riders stop and every kind of bike you can think of is there. We all pretty much like apple pie. I love riding. I want to try riding every bike out there. There isn't any I can think of I wouldn't like to try.

When you sit on the bike and got a chance to ride it then you might change your mind bout the bike...
People dont realized bout comfort and sitting position untill they ride long enough like couple thousand miles...
Take your time and do lots of research and review on the bike...IMO
Every bike build for purpose if you like the look I think Chopper is sick and different from other but you wouldnt ride far on it...

Oh its a pretty bike, don't get me wrong. When I bought the FZ, my wife and I looked at a ton of different bikes, and there are some cruisers that were comfortable, but again, i'd want a full backseat for her. One of the things I didn't like though was the weight -i'm not a big guy, and i'm far from buff. When I was looking at the FJR at the dealer, even that took a bit of effort to get it up on 2 wheels, but thats also something like 600+ pounds of tourer. Most cruisers just felt too big for me.

I'll say that when I first got the fizzer it was because of price point and utility...and the red drew me in. Now that I've had it, I appreciate its lines, and it's WAY more capable than a cruiser...except in riding 1000 miles LOL

I look for Performance first, looks second and finally comfort. I'm not a fan of cruisers.

I know this has nothing to do with it, but one of my pet peeves is when someone posts something about a certain bike or something else where they could EASILY google up a pic and add it to their post so everyone can know what they're talking about, but they don't.

Embarrassing, but I never even thought of that! lol. It's pretty, but that back seat looks like its big enough for one cheek. I'm in it for comfort and handling/performance. The fact that the Fizzer is pretty is a nice added bonus

Hmm...im not that into cruisers or trail bikes so i go for sports bikes ( position is comfortable due to my back injury)...id like comfort but handling is a must...lots of very twisty lanes round here...as for rear seating lol my old FZ600 offers its pillion a lunchbox lid to sit on ...most sportsbikes dont really cater for pillions they seem to be perched up high with their knees behind their ears lol
