K100 fuel additive

Just an FYI re a fuel additive product, K100 , I mostly use on the boat (has a large fuel tank). I do use it on the bike occassionally.

I can attest, from almost two years of use on my boat (a 1997 with a 50 gallon tank which has accumulated moisture over over 16 years), that the water previously in the tank (drain some and watch the separation) works as advertised. The fuel in my boat fuel tank (never, drained, cleaned, etc) looks as if it was just pumped yesterday..

Especially useful for bikes being put up for storage, it'll help, if not eliminate fuel tank rusting (IE filled up fully). It can be used in other engines, the video pretty much speaks for itself.

BTW, the local MC shop I frequent had a display set up years ago (which is where I learned of the product) with an ounce of water, fuel and additive(s) set up as shown in the video. With the excessive water amount in the fuel, the results were MUCH MORE visable

I did a bit of reading and according to this site, K100 is not a good idea for E10 for storage :don'tknow: Is your gas additive safe with E10 fuel?

Stabil (based on their chart) is a better choice. I've always used Stabil with good results, but I honestly know very little about this stuff.

In your case (not storage, but leaning out fuel and running it through just to get the water out once), K100 certainly seems to be a great way to go.

Thanks for the review Scott. I am a big Sea Foam fan for both fuel storage and as a injector/carb cleaner but it's good to have choices.

I run Seafoam on a regular basis in the FZ (365 days a year) so storage issues on the bike isn't an issue for me.. I can feel the bike run better with Seafoam in it than without it, literally.. ])

Re the K100, as posted above, it has literally encapsulated and eventually got rid of ALL MOISTURE in a 16 year old gas tank that I could see / smell myself. I KNOW it works. You can't see any more water separation and the fuel is CLEAR and smells new. (That is with ALSO using Non-Ethonol Marina fuel as well). The engine, (repowered in 2006) runs better now than when new.

I've been wrenching on small engnes/cars, some on boats, since I was was 12, (55 now) so I have knowledge of fuel systems (more so with carbs) and I do carb cleaning all the time... Just pulled a 6 HP B&S engine apart today (I got for free with a hole in the block). Unfortunatly, someone stripped 1 of 3 mounting bolts, drilled it at an angle and put a hole in the base and the block, duh!!! (Got a bunch of spare parts off it!)

If you have a vehicle/boat, that's NOT driven often, its, IMHO, a very good investment.

For me to pull the tank out (for cleaning, water removal) of my boat is a MAJOR PIA...

Remove the center console and ALL the controls. Remove the center section floor and all the cnnectors to the tank (lines, electrical). Get rid of 40+ gallons of fuel somehow. Then figure out how to get the moisture out AFTER PULLING the tank out.

Then, after that, you put it back together, the new fuel goes stale in a month and starts collecting moisture again..

Anyway, for moisture removal in a large tank, it does work. It also does indeed stabilize the fuel.

How it compares to Seafoam for storage, I don't know, I suspect, probably about the same (just bought 3 cans of Seafoam last weeks at Northern) :thumbup:

That link puts down all other products to help with ethonol fuel issues however, at the very bottom, their SELLING their product:

Most folks, even slightly mechanically inclined, know of the issues / problems with ethonol fuel and the moisture it collects (and the corrosion that goes with it)..


*Just a side note from personal experiance from working on a particular lawn mower.
I have a vacant lot next door that I have a spare "junk" mower used to cut it. I had been using Stabil (probably ten years ago or so). The carb got clogged up, so I removed the varnish, cleaned the jets ,etc, but the O-ring for the float bowl really needed replacement (seeping ever so slightly, stored outside). I didn't have time to get the O-ring, just filled up the engine again with fuel/Stabil.

Came back about a month later to replace the O-ring. Dammit, there's varnish ALREADY sticking to the inside of the float bowl (aluminum) Needless to say, I don't use it anymore.. Again, that's my experiance and opinion...
