I have been a bit slow on the up take,
But I have recently discovered Johnny. What a gifted song writer.

His final released song is one of the most haunting songs/videos I've ever seen. His cover of Nine Inch Nails "Hurt" is simply amazing. :thumbup:

I saw that a while ago, but it never registered with me that It was him?
Subsequently I have discovered that he died not to long after.

First time I heard "Hurt" was when my son sang it on a recoding he did and he gave me a little history on it.
I used to watch reruns of "Grand Ole Opry" where I saw June Carter with her mom "Momma Carter" and sisters. June later became June Carter Cash.

I wouldn't know where to begin to explain the deep reverence and respect I have for these artists. Not your run of the mill, prepackaged, pre-formulated country music, but the stuff that came from the roots and cultures that made this music.

I grew up in Jersey and was never a country music fan but when I was in my 20's I had a short wave radio and I would listen to WWVA in West Virginia that would play Grand Ole Opry on Saturday nights. I'd heard stories and knew of some of the culture handed down to us from my mom. I was fascinated with what came out of the radio and it was not like what you would hear if you tuned to a local country radio station.

I'm still not a country music fan but maybe it's cuz it aint really country! :Flip:

Even NIN were in awe of what Johnny Cash did with Hurt which is a song that cut me to my bones.

My father used to take me to country western shows back in the 70's when I was back in grade school. He couldn't convince my mother or any of my 3 brothers to go with him, so we spent lots of quality time at concerts of whom I had no clue who they were.. But this Johhny Cash dude was impressive.. all badass looking in all black!!

Dad is gone (deceased) now for 8 years, but it sure is nice to cherish the memories he left. And oh yeah!! Dad had a bike all through the years I was growing up. I spent literally 100's of hours as a passenger on it. Good times!

As a kid I listened to the man in black often. . . Funny thing now, when we go camping my sisters kids blast it through the camp ground. :rockon:
But back in the day it played on something called vinyl. . . :don'tknow:

I prolly shouldn't open this door but I seem to have lots JC backed on a drive somewhere most is in mp3 or lossless.

Humpy, if you like that one, you should see Sweet Home Alabama or, my personal favorite...Cruel Intentions (although, admittedly, there is a LOT of eye-candy in that movie!)

Reese is one of my favorites, for sure. :drool:
