One thing about it....................the seat!
When I did a short trip to Red Rock a coupla weeks ago I stopped at the viewing place to have my Power Bar & water a young guy drove up & parked next to me & we started talking. He had something that looked exactly like that, it was a 400cc something-or-other, but it had street tires on it, just narrower than ours. Anyway, he liked it, but had one complaint; he said the seat was a brick & uncomfortable for any lengh of time riding!

what ive heard from reviews and such is that kawasaki took care in making the seat tolerable for a long period of time.

I think starting in the dirt is the best. I learned to ride on a YZ-85 with a wild powerband and then moved to 125cc bikes, and 250cc bikes. My thought process is there's rarely any traffic to kill you, dropping the bike is typically painless unless you take out a lever then it's $20 to fix, and you learn all about the back break and how traction truly works.

I'm very thankful that I learned clutch, throttle, and brake control in the dirt rather than on the street.

Got so caught up in my I love the dirt preaching that I forgot the original thread! I know for sure that my next bike will be a dual sport. I had to sell the dirt bikes to get the street bike and I miss riding dirty. So I'll mix the two worlds and get a dual sport. The Kawi looks great too, I like it better than the KLR.

I gotta agree that starting out on dirtbikes is a good idea. As previously mentioned, dirtbikes instill proper riding habits in a fairly safe environment (off the road).

The Kawasaki KLX 250 S is an excellent bike, I came really close to buying one in April, but got a bad feeling from the dealer. The bike was very comfortable and had plenty of power given it's smaller displacement. Instead of the new Kawasaki, I bought a used 2003 Yamaha XT 225 dual sport.
It had 1,500 miles on it and was rarely taken off road by the previous owner. I rode the XT nearly 2,000 miles between June and August when I traded it for a new 2008 FZ6. The XT has similar knobby tires, and I never had any traction problems on wet roads. I rode that bike mostly on the road, but I did go off-road on occasion. If I could convince the wife, I'd probably buy another dual sport since they're so fun to ride.
