I've Been Everywhere

Being a fan of Johnny Cash and his song "I've Been Everywhere" (I know it's not his originally) I wanted to visit all the places he names on the FZ6. Compiling the list, it's apparent that even with unlimited time/funds it would take a loooooong time. So, I figure, if I can't do it (yet anyways), why not throw it out there to the masses and see what we can come up with?

I want pictures of you and your FZ in front of signs that prove you were in that location (such as "Welcome to xxxxx") and I will put them to the song so that when it plays the picture corresponding to that location is shown. I think it's a pretty cool idea. I am putting all the locations in a google earth model and will attach it so you all can see what I'm talking about.

I understand that not all of us ride an FZ6, and I feel for you. Thus, as long as it is you and your riding a motorcycle, I consider it acceptable. This is probably going to be a work in progress for awhile, collecting all of the pics, considering it is getting cold and alot of people put 'em away for the winter, but I wanted to throw this out there and get a feel for the response.

Any takers??

P.S. - Since there is alot of Springfields and El Dorados, I don't really know which ones to use. Any ideas?

GREAT idea!

I think that in cases where there are several towns with the same name, any town with the name would do.

Looking forward to seeing the list! This is something I'd love to start (although there's no way I'd have time to do it all in one year).

Gave just a quick look through your list and the Waterloo in his song is actually Waterloo, IA. He played there on April 21, 1967. I wasn't there (not even close to being old enough), but my Dad said he had bus troubles and showed up a couple hrs late.

Same with Davenport, it was IA, googled it to double check.

I would get a picture for you, but I am in Denver, Bike is in NM, and its too cold and snowy to ride the fz6 up there for Thanksgiving when I go home. I'll try to remember next summer.

I go to Old Town, Maine often. I can get Waterville and Bangor, Maine but it will have to wait for spring now!

I could get pretty much every place in Ontario, but as my bike is away for the winter...and I'm sure most people from Canada have theirs away, you may have to wait til spring lol It was snowing again today.

This is a good idea. Bring it back with the list of place next year. It would be fun if the group could succeed in a joint task.

How fun! One of AMA's annual self-guided "Grand Tours" last year was the AMA I've Been Everywhere Grand Tour. I did it, mostly on my Beemer, and picked up more than half the locations in that song. It was a ton of fun! AMA rules only required the bike and the rally flag in the photos, so I'm not in any of them, and they didn't care which of the many towns of the same name that we got, as long as it was properly documented. I was one of the high scorers and received a plaque. Here's the blog that I kept; it only shows a few of the photos: AMA IBET 2007

Shameless plug: If you're not a member of AMA, consider joining. Annual dues is minimal and includes their American Motorcyclist magazine. I like the work they're doing to protect our rights, and they have some really fun Grand Tours each year. This year I'm finishing up the AMA World's Largest Grand Tour and the AMA Italy in America Grand Tour.
