that I write this post. It has been weighing on my mind mind, exactly how to put this - and to be honest, I'm still in the middle of it - so here goes.

July 4, I had a motorcycle accident. Not with the FZ6, but rather with my '87 FZR1000. I remember nothing of it, note one bit. A little of the ambulance ride, and some of their hospital, but lots of empty slots there. Based on the police report, it seems that, on a slightly curving road to the right, I applied heavy brakes (27 ft skid mark) to avoid a car directly in front of me (same lane) turning right at an intersection (no stop sign). No cameras on me. I missed the car, but apparently lost control of the bike - probably high-sided? - and hit the ground. I was wearing full gear (jacket/pants/helmet/gloves/pants/boots), but as it was hard summer, the jacket was pretty lightweight (Icon MeshAF). I basically had no road rash at all, but broke my right clavicle and 8 ribs on the right side (ribs 1-7 and 9). So I'm guessing I hit the ground pretty hard? Strangely the bike was NOT in awful shape, much better than I expected. Anyways - am still in recovery mode, but am out of my sling. Still not weight-bearing on the right hand side. But I can swing a golf club, and my range of motion is decent, but will need some work.

Two really hard things out of this.
1) Not remembering what happened. Was this all my fault? Some if it? It was a well-known road, no way I was hot-dogging as it was just past a policeman's house (parks his cruiser outside). Did the car not signal? No brake lights? I mean, I guess it doesn't matter, clearly I was too close to be able to react, or at least react well. I'm glad I avoided hitting the car, but in the end, I didn't control the bike. Still, it is hard never knowing the actual scenario.
2) My spouse... well, I can choose to keep riding, or I can choose to have a happy marriage. Can't do both. So I'm going to have to divest, I guess. Which is really rough. Will probably be worse once I'm fully healed. Honestly not sure how to fill that hole. If I was single, I'd be back on a bike no question. But I'm not willing to be single _just_ to ride. But man this is gonna really be hard.

So I guess I'm going to be selling some bikes. The FZ6 is high mileage (57k) but setup for touring and in decent shape. I'll try to find a suitable buyer. The recent scooter acquisition (Honda SH150i) is gonna hurt, that is my errand bike. The FZR1000, I'll have to get some work on that, make sure it runs again before I can sell. And then I have all this gear... jackets, gloves, etc... this will be a painful exercise.

Anyways - gear up my fellas, one never knows. Peace.

Man, so sorry to hear about this, but most importantly you’ll come out the other side. Also sorry that you’ve been given the ultimatum…I’ve been riding since I’m 10…any met my wife when I was 20…I’m all about tradition.

Heal up.

Jeez Louise, these are the messages you dont come here to read, 'cepting its good you can write it, and no-one's doing it on your behalf.

Couple of things:
Glad you are healing, and maybe its a little Godsend that you cant remember too much.
As we all get a little older, many of us ride slower and less often. The big catalyst for you is "Happy Wife, Happy Life" and the absolute joy that you can still be here to participate in life. Bikes are awesome - no denying, but comes a time..... Its a big call and you are making it for right reasons.

Good luck with all the sales and the new HANG GLIDING HOBBY

Sorry for the crash BUT glad your here to speak about it...

If I may,
I went thru a BAD crash when 19 on my 1975 RD350, 9/30/77. Car turned left in front of me...
To this date, I lost 6 days of memory, broken jaw in 4 places, broken leg in 2 places,,
dislocated shoulder, head trauma (Very bad), busted teeth. Obviously, healed up to a point.

Took me 2 years before I got back on a dirt bike (YZ250). Eventually back on a street bike (XS650), the year-1982.

Been riding since, always.. Suggestion, keep the FZ (don't have to ride it) or your favorite bike..
Fog it, store it cover it... Keep it as a Sunday driver, WHEN YOUR UP TO IT.. May be years, may be never.
Once gone, you likely won't find another... Just something to consider.

Keep getting better..

.

Good to hear you are still with us, and wish you a speedy recovery.
I'm of the same mind as Townsends above, there is always a chance (even if only 1%) that your wife will have a change of heart later on. Keep one if you can. Hopefully she is only insisting you not ride, rather than 'get rid of everything'.

Good luck with all the sales and the new HANG GLIDING HOBBY
Lol! I was flying tandem for the first time with one of the Acrotwins (Tim Green) my nephew in law. He was showing me how to kite etc. I was a natural and doing cobras. LOL! We got reamed for not getting signed off at the glider port so I had to pony up for my temp pilot's license and check off a lot of stuff so we wouldn't sue in case I got grass stains or pooped my pants in a close call etc.
My wife was there and knew I was all fired up chomping at the bit for a used rig. She looks at me with those she devil eyes that got me under her spell in the first place and says, " "You gotta be effin kidding me! The crashes you've been in aren't enough? You're going to fall out of the sky for thrills now!?
Yeah, I've had my share of pretty decent injuries. She cried and said she doesn't want me to leave her alone. Bottom line, I love my she devil too bits and to the moon n back.
I'll be here on the forum though and keep punching in life.
This forum has been a great learning experience in many facets of socializing, riding and bike tech.

gnyce as many here has shared the experience of building. It's an honor to know you!

Ade, I've seen a picture of you and your wife and she be another devil girl! Cheers!

Thanks guys - appreciate all of your words. I've taken no action so far, and truth be told I would not _have_ to.... I mean, I don't have Gary in NJ's garage, but I do have the space. And I take your point, Scott... so we shall see. I'm in no hurry. But I'll be honest, I'm wistful seeing guys out there riding. The other day there was an ADV bike (BMW) with a dude in full gear, side cases.. and I was jealous. I'm not holding out hope if I play out the long game, but like Mr. Carrey says... "so yer telling me there's a chance!".

Waving the white flag, gents - I see no path forward to riding 'post-accident' and staying married. Too hard to just let her sit and gather dust. Just posted her on CL. Gonna let everything go, but if you see anything that is of interest, let me know. Thinking more of the Givi top-box/side cases. I _do_ have a Terrys seat for it, really no reason to hang on to it, so if anyone is interested, I can pull it from the plastic bag in the basement and take pictures. It was used for 1-2 longer trips (the trip to Canada at least, maybe 1 more to PA grand canyon?) - so it's had minimal use. I realize there might be no takers, totally fine, it's a niche item. Sad day but I guess I saw it coming even tho' I held out some hope.

Sorry to hear that the time has come, it’s does for everyone eventually.

I have interest in the side cases and brackets and perhaps the seat cover.
Hi Gary. It's not a seat cover, it's a full-on seat replacement, with OEM seat pan - made by Terry Adcox/Terry's Custom Seats before he passed away. See below. There was another member - Matt something in NE US? - who had one.

With regards to side cases and brackets - not the top-box? I ask b/c I _think_ Givi, for their side bracket, requires the top-box bracket as well (for the S1 - no idea on S2). I do not doubt your ability to engineer something up, but letting you know....

If the top box, side cases and brackets are a system, then yes let me know how much for all.

I’ve been thinking about a new bike to take on trips…but if I had the ability to add cases to the FZ I might be able to uncomplicate my life.

Sorry to hear this :(

With regard to the side case racks, IIRC the PLX 351 is an adapter specifically designed for the FZ6-S (2004 - 2006) to replace the clamps on the under seat exhaust to allow you to fit the racks.

The S2 model uses the PLX 360 adapter.

Gents, the FZ6 is sold. CL is a ghost-town, but someone finally saw it (that wasn't some scammer). Super nice guy, has an FJ1200 he fixed up. Might be your neighbor/close by, @Gary in NJ . We've been doing some texting back and forth, told him about you-all, maybe he'll join up at some point. I'll stick around some, I had 11 years with her and still enjoying the memories of the trips. Tell you tho, tough _not_ riding in this cooling-Fall weather (saw a sweet Triumph-with-sidecar on the road today). Cheers
