Is it hard on the bike or the life of it to accelerate hard kind of often??

I don't accelerate hard all the time but when I do I may hit 10 or 12k at the highest. I realize its made for it but I am coming from a 03 Honda Shadow (ha ha kinda different). So I am enjoying the power, although its probably just the new bike syndrome you get when you get something faster. Other then that its a stock 08' FZ6 crying for mods soon. I take great care of it and change oil every 1000 miles.

you will be fine, the engine is designed to do it and you should not shorten the life any measurable amount just so long as you keep up with the maintenance, which it sounds like you are doing anyway.

2 things:

1) Make sure you ONLY do it when the engine has warmed up.
2) Don't hyper rev for EXTENDED periods of time.

As long as it's not in high RPM's for a prolonged period of time, it should be fine.

It can be haed on your own life to accelerate too hard too often.

I came from a Suzuki Intruder to the FZ6....there is no similarity between a cruiser and this bike.

So please take it easy until you get used to it.

Every engine has a finite number of rpm's. More if you keep clean oil in it and less if you don't. All things being equal, if you ride at higher rpm's than average you will be doing internals more than average.

The main thing I would watch if you really enjoy the acceleration is the chain and sprockets as these would tend to take the most stress. So keep the chain lubed and adjusted regularly.:rockon:

If you didn't do that at least once in awhile, you might as well drive your Shadow.

The engine is a detuned R6, its built to rev (it redlines at 14k FGS) it does not like to be molly-coddled. REV IT and keep REVVING IT! She'll thank you for it. Just service it regularly.

hard to say, I rode mine like it was stolen for 17800 miles.

Only thing a lot of hard acceleration is really going to be hard on is your tires, and unless you do it a lot, you're not going to notice it there either...
