Still, consideraing your age, that's an incredibly low rate. Are you getting it on with "Flo" or something?

Took me a second, but once I remembered who "Flo" was...:rof:

I was torn between getting the collision coverage or not...it's an extra $650/year, plus a $500 deductible. I'm sure they'll only value the bike at ~$3k - $3.5k or so if it's totaled. I decided to get it but I'd like to hear what other peoples takes are on it.

To me..insurance is essentially gambling. You decide what level of risk that you are willing to accept and make a decision. Realistically, people generally do not total a vehicle (or bike in this case) once a year; or even every few years for that matter. if the bike is only worth $3,000 and your insurance premium is over $1,000 a year for full coverage; it doesn't take a mathematician to realize that the insurance company is going to make bank when your claim never arrives.

My 2 cents...but again, it's a risk assessment. If my premium were over a grand a year, I would definitely opt for liability/medical coverage.

I'm 24 with a clean driving record and a few tickets.
Second year riding

I have liability/ uninsured motorist protection/ comprehensive/ collision and accessory coverage.

I pay 795 for a 12 month policy without having the MSF class through Progressive.
Insurance is something I don't gamble on. Its not always worth it, but when you need to use it, having the best coverage makes things easier.

Here's some perspective.

All bikes with the same levels of coverage 100/300/100, C&C, $250 deductable.

FZ6: $282 - Don't remember
FZ1: $194 (yes that is correct) -Esurance
1125R: $440 - Gieco

I've since move all of my insurance to Esurance; two cars, FZ1, umbrella, two homes (rented out), two renters (long story).

1125r remains with Gieco until I sell it this month.

Keep in mind that some Ins Co. perfer to ins one brand vs. another. Flo wanted about $1,100 for the FZ1, and $1,800 in the Buell. You've simply got to call around and see what you can find.

LMAO yeah I got a discount just for agreeing with her!!!
No but I think living in maine has something to do with it as they know I won't be riding it for at least 3 months out of the year.

Rackup.......

100 deductible comprehensive $33.92
500 deductible collision: $123.27
Uninsured motorist (25k/50k): $81.78

Cost per year $272.64

Hmmm. Why so much more than State Farm in New York? Maybe I need to shop around a little. Also a big chunk for uninsured motorists (there is the biggest rip off).

I just checked with esurance...

For their state minimum coverage (PA) with the highest deductible options, full coverage is $1,056/yr for me. Being young and having a "sportbike" is expensive! I don't even wanna know what an R1 would cost me!!

Good god I can't believe some of the numbers I'm reading. I have pretty much the same rate as chaskell27. I think it was $160 to be exact.

Progressive (Through USAA)
Age:23
State: TX
Accidents and tickets: None
Riding Exp: None
Discounts: Military (USAA) and MSF course

As far as coverage I have the same as chaskell27. Comprehensive, no collision. In all reality if I wreck my bike to the point where its totaled and it was my fault...im not getting another one.

With State Farm I think I am paying something like $420/year for full coverage. (I think the fact that I've had six other bikes with them played into it somehow though)
I know they told me if I had the R version it would have risen dramatically! (Go figure)
The stupid training wheels cut me some slack, I'm sure!

I pay $228/year, through Progressive. Married 47 y.o. female, one old accident (may not be counted)
My coverage is 20K/40K/15K, $500 deduct for collision and comprehensive, $3000 accessories covered, too.
I also tried Geico, and they were outrageously expensive for me. It's amazing how much different the cost is regionally, and how each company varies regionally, too.
Looks like it would be worth checking rates for many forum members!
