I regularly ride pillion on my girlfriends Fazer, and one thing that always used to hack me off is how slippery the seat is. It may be different in the US because most of the seats I see on your bikes are dimpled, but on my girlfriends 08 S2 UK spec bike it's as slippery as greased butter so whenever she hits the brakes I end up sliding up to her butt. Which ordinarily would be a damn fine thing. But not on a bike during an emergency stop.

Now, getting a saddle recovered is expensive, and as well as being rather slippery my bottom is also renowned for its almost legendary tightness. The words "He was a generous man to the end" will categorically NOT be engraved on my tombstone, in fact I want to be buried upside down so that I can charge visitors to park their bicycles when they visit my final resting place.

Ahem.

Moving on. :spank:

I had a quick look in the el cheapo shops, and found a non-slip dash mat similar to this...

... you've probably seen hundreds of them going for a couple of (insert local currency here). So I thought... "Hmmm if it can keep my iPhone on the dash round corners, can it keep my butt on the saddle during braking?"

So, I bought it, and next time we went out for a ride I placed it on the saddle before sitting down.

What a total transformation - not just under braking, but acceleration and cornering, my body is much more relaxed because I'm not tensing up all the time to keep myself in place. I can confidently lean with the bike now instead of worrying that I'll slip to one side and it's increased my comfort to such an extent that I can ride for longer as my body is much more relaxed.

So go talk to your passenger, find out if they have the same problem and then head down to your local store and get a non-slip dash mat, it'll be the best (insert local currency again) you ever spent! :cheer:

Over here you can buy that stuff by the roll (24"wide X 60"long) and cut it to fit whatever. It's like duct tape, the more you use it the more uses you find for it.

I did about the same thing on both seats. I use cabinet nonskid liner for R.V.s. Contact adhesive, and cut the liner to fit the seat area, spray it down and let it tack up, then stick it to the seat. It works great.

Well one down side. I got on the bike full throttle in 1st and second today. I think I carpet burned my taint. LOL LOL Its true though.

We use it to line wheelchair seats in cases where people slide forward... The stuff is called Dycem...

There is another type of seat cushion Id love to see for a bike made by a company called ROJO its a seat that prevents pressure sores... its like sitting on hundreds of little fingers... Sounds weird supposed to be uber-comfy and very non-slip

Ok.... So let's summarize the situation:

Your girlfriend rides and FZ6.

You have a tendancy to bump into her from behind while on her motorcycle.

....and this is a problem........

Seriously though. That tac-mat stuff works well. You can buy it in the kitchen section of most department stores (it's used to line kitchen drawers and cabinets).

I'm thinking they bury you with your butt a bit higher so your REAL friends can park their FZ when they come to visit, eh?

Yea, I already have one, picked it up in a bike shop (in the UK). I use it between luggage to stop it moving around.

Used to use on a 23' trailer sailor. Below deck. By the roll. Great stuff. Get it at camping, rubber stores (Clarke Rubber) here in Oz.

12 days to go ........

I agree, normally this would be an excellent event, and I would be inviting passers-by to throw some jelly on us and play a twangy 70s soundtrack. But when the only thing that's hard is the braking, it's a bit of a distraction for her!

Just how big to you think my butt is???? :spank: It would have to be front wheel only, even I don't have a cavity that can accomodate a 180 section tyre.

The FZ6R boys should be okay though

Custard would be better.

Anyway, you can buy a Tribo seat cover. Never tried it myself.

Good idea.

Also, it's cool your girlfriend can ride the bike with you on the back. My girlfriend is about half my size and fits on a Buell Blast, and I don't think she would be able to hold the bike up with me on the back.

I was going to suggest that. Also, Oxford sell one called a blanket. Also, lots of cheap pound shops sell a roll for a pound or so in different colours. Also, Ikea sell a huge amount of it for a few pounds but it's white. I use a black roll I bought from a discount store for a pound to make my own version of the tribo seat for the passenger side using duct tape for whenever my girlfriend rides with me. It's best if you wrap it over the seat and trap it underneath the seat for extra security. Just don't cover up any bits that are needed for seat latches etc.

After shaving my seat, I no longer have the problem of my nuts getting crushed against the tank so I don't need it myself. Also, I like to hang a butt-cheek off the seat when cornering aggressively (on the rare occasions I trust the awful road surfaces in Hampshire) so I can't have myself gripping to the seat too much!

I think everyone is missing the real story here, wtf are u doing riding on the back with your girl up front.. Maybe things are different in europe...no way in hell would I let a girl drive me around.

I guess they are different, for one we don't have that kind of sexist attitude.

A little back story here... my girlfriend is better educated than me, works damn hard for her money helping people with drug addiction problems, saves loads of money, and has paid her own way in life including doing a week long Direct Access course and buying herself a brand new Fazer.

I'm damn PROUD to ride on the back of her bike!!!

And mate with that attitude, your bike is the only thing you'll be riding.
