I'm all ways on the look out for killer deal on qualty gear.:spank: I hope it will stop by the summer. I'm trying to stick to one item every 4 weeks.

Am I alone? Do you guys buy qualty gear on spot sales, or as needed?

I used to buy gear all the time, until I realized my problem was buying cheap gear that wasn't that good. Now I pony up the money for some quality gear and I'll rarely buy more than one piece of equipment a year. Although last year I picked up an X-12, Tourmaster jacket, and Rev'It Jerez gloves. But I needed it all, I swear

I'm still a new rider and haven't filled up my closet yet. I have textile pant and jacket, now I want Leathers.

I want a new helmet, like the Schuberth C3 because it is so quiet and light. My HJC CL-Max III is crap.

I try to find deals and will spend the time to look around before buying.

I buy a lot of gear lately. I've got
-4 jackets(1 for pillion, one textile/leather jacket a buddy gave me, 1 full textile scorpion, and 1 icon contra(I effing love this jacket))
-3 pairs of gloves
-1 pair of scorpion textile overpants
-1 pair of teknic riding jeans(I effing love these too)
-4 helmets(Scorpion exo500(my daily helmet), 707 vendetta(pillion), and two other helmets I'll never wear, one that came with the bike and another one I bought off of craigslist before I knew any better).
I'd love to get some heated gear eventually since I try to ride year round

I'm there with ya. I'm constantly looking for new things to buy, even though I may not necessarily need anything. When winter came I was all about getting good gear to keep me warm. With summer right around the corner, I want to find some good gauntlet style leather gloves and a perforated leather jacket. After riding all winter with my Astars leather jacket, I'm now thinking my mesh jacket won't protect me. Also need some good breathable overpants. So yeah, it never ends... PLUS that's just gear... I'm constantly looking at different parts/mods for the bike....

I agree you have to spend money in order to get quality gear.

By far, the best motorcycle gloves out there that has lasted the longest for me is the Motorport Kevlar Racing Gloves. I'm going on my 2nd pair after my first pair lasted for almost five staight years of riding.

99% of the rider here on this forum will never ever wear out these gloves. According to Wayne of Motoport, I am the first out of over 10,000 pairs that he has seen that his gloves had gotten worn to a point it needed repair or replacement. Just like 99% of the riders will probably never wear out the bottom of their soles of their boots. But I have gone through three boots to the point that I have gotten holes on the bottom of both my heals. I guess that will happen if you wear them for 12 hours a day, everyday of the week. Last time I bought a pair of tennis shoes, or any shoes besides motorcycle boots was six years ago.

Seems like zippers fails the most for me. Jackets, pants and even my tail bags. Even the Motoport Air Mesh Kevlar Pants zipper tabs have broken off several times. I usually send my pants for minor repairs every two years, but they seem to hold up well considering I wear these everyday.

My helmet gets replaced every two years as well, the retention strap usually begins to fray as the result of so many uses.

For something like a helmet, don't try to stock up because they're recommended to be replaced every 3-5 years regardless of use (or impacts!) because of the breakdown of the "majik" inside them. I keep my old one around (replaced after 3 years) for in case I have a pillion passenger (still within the 5 year mark!) or in case I do something stupid with my new one (knock on wood).

I'm a gear whore in that I'm always looking for new gear, but I haven't been buying much because 1) I've determined that I'm only buying QUALITY stuff from now on and 2) I can't afford quality stuff at the moment, so hey - that'll just have to wait! :Flip:

I'm ALWAYS looking for the next item I don't need. Currently I'm wanting gloves and shoes, I think I'm in love with the Puma Testastretta II Mid Boots. I have two helmets but haven't bought a new one in two and a half years so kinda jonesen for one of those too.
Thank god I don't do drugs, infirm this addicted to gear lord knows what might happen if I were hooked on something else....

Well I guess the answer is no because Shoei was offering the new X-12 helmets for $80.00 with a 3 max purchase a couple of years ago for MSF RC's and I did not take advantage of it. I had just purchased my new Qwest helmet so I really didn't need another new helmet that would just sit for another 2-3 years. I still use my old helmets from time to time.

Being an instructor I can get discounted helmets anyways, usually at dealers cost.

I have a bit of a problem with buying gear too, but I've slowed down since picking up a two piece Aerostich Roadcrafter suit a few years ago. That thing is awesome and I basically wear it all of the time now.

But, I did buy my Roadcrafter used and it is a little on the small side for me (difficult to layer), so I might be getting another one now that I know they are worth the money.

well yes i guess im a gear whore, or better a helmet whore. i love helmets.

in 5.5 years i bought 7 helmets for me, one for the gf and one i got as a present. they were nearly all quality lids bar 1- i bought it at lidl, it wasnt bad, it held better than my vemar jiano flip front, but it was the cheapest and the quality of the lining wasn t impressive.

in order of purchase
agv stealth - a very good fitting lid with a good price, lightweight too, i loved it

vemar jiano - bought for everday use- piece of crap really, liner split apart after 3months use and the lid would not stay open, it would fall in your field of vision after about 6mths of regular (not everyday use) expected much better from vemar

marushin m901- much better than the vemar, the liner held up well, a bit large and on the heavy side, chin piece started to lose friction after about 1 year of use, then it would not stay open until it was stolen

marushin 888- for the gf. the lightest lid of the lot, yes i weighed it. very comfortable and sturdy- her comments

crivit - a modular helmet, that served me well, visor change and liner not very inspiring but it was sturdy.

shark rsr2 got in close out - great lid, very tight fitting and the liner is very comfy - a bit tight on the ears tho

shark rsx- perfect lid, fits nice and snug, room for ears, sturdy lid, my everyday lid, i use it on sunday rides only in alternance with the rsr2

agv ti tech bought on ebay barely used for a good price, paint was mint - same as rsr2, maybe a bit lighter!


lazer paname - its red and white and very fancy for a modular, got it as a xmas present, very good, comfy and sturdy, up to now the best of the modulars, clicks close with more reassurance than the others. i use it very often especially at night

Wow, that's a lot of helmets... I have 1 helmet I use for everything, an HJC CL-16. I think I may have purchased it too big though. It felt snug on in the store, but after wearing it for over a year it moves around on my head when I'm on the highway. So I think I may need to go a size smaller, but really don't want to spend the money on it now. I just got new gloves and a rain jacket, so it's not in the budget!

Spending money on gear could save you money in the long run. It may minimize your injuries in the event of a crash. Medical bills, hospital, time off from work, etc. all because it wasn't in the budget?

You know.... I'm starting to dislike you guys.... Fine... I ordered a damn Shoei Qwest helmet.... Now I'm really freaking broke... Of course I only paid 250 new... So I did get a really good deal... And I am excited about getting new helmet... And I think the white Neuron design looks pretty cool... Crap, I guess this makes me a gear whore, huh?

My Shoei xr1100 is now just over two years old, cost me $600 back then on special.
Today I handed over 260 skins to replace the cheek pads, the crown, a nice new unblemished visor, pinlock anti fog, chin curtain and the visor pivots, Almost a new helmet(well in another two years it will be time for sure and Shoei is sure to have a new model by then)
cant do enough to keep the good bits protected-ATGATT
