i was a squid.. make that squid²

ok, so i had a squid moment, at a light, an audi TT next to me..


if you dont know....

so anyway, he starts moving forward on the red... i move forward a little. get the feeling he is gonna race, not something i do, but with a two lane-one way highway, with no cars... i let my guard down. there was a good half mile stretch of empty road, and i pulled the :squid: card. light turns green. i start to go, not heavy, just enough to see if he is gonna go, he gets right up next to me and i tuck and blast, look in the mirror at around 70 or 80 mph only to see him about 20 car lengths back...


....he wasnt racing at all..... i felt like a :squid:. but... i can always say i blew away an AUDI TT. atleast in my defense, it was kinda like having my own personal track, except there was no body to scrape me off the pavement should i lose it some how.

Been there, but I think it's just them goading you into it and then backing off. They just want to see you go fast, they ought to be aware that our two wheels are faster than their four unless they've made some major investments under the hood.

I used to do this to faster cars when I drove a 2000 BMW 3 series. Not nearly fast enough to keep up with them but enough to pull out in front of an unsuspecting Mustang or what have you, and then watch and listen as they explored the upper range of their tachometer.

I've been on the other end of that coin. (In my cage) I like to goad people into playing in first gear, then coast the rest. I especially love doing it to Hondas..... I love doing it when I know there's a cop hiding up ahead.

I always take off fast from lights. The difference is people try and race me and I hit the limit and sit on it and they go zooming off and get caught at the next lights

I always open up at a light to put some distance between me and cagers, and every once in a while I get the guy in his pimped out jap car who thinks I want to race him... I usually just let them pass me (not really), but this one time there was a 'vette on PCH coming out of Sunset Beach towards Huntington (long empty stretch along the Beach)... he got pretty close... but not enough fun times!

Nope... we chatted about the bike. What he was surprised about was this: He expected a young punk was under all the gear and a helmet. When I pulled it off and he sees the silver hairs and realized he was actually younger than I was, he chuckled. He gave me a verbal warning and said with a laugh... "Nice to know some older guys still have it. Slow down Sir."

I was only 9 mph over but it was the way I launched and I think he honestly expected me to stay WOT and break for the open road. I didn't and usually don't but I do like to launch at the lights and get up to speed in a hurry.

So, when I asked that question, he gave me a brief puzzled stare, then broke into an ear to ear grin. I thanked him and parted with a launch to the speed limit and waved when he pulled past me.

LMAO!! I liked your race story.....There is a Law in TEXAS for getting to the speed limit to fast,and I got it in Longveiw in 1992....it was called (Exhibition of aceleration) :eyebrow: :disapprove: I did'nt even get up to the speed limit..before the lights and siren were goin..:spank: I had to take a Defensive driving class to get the stupid ticket dropped....:ban:

We have street racing laws here, but you would need to be breaking the speed limit to get in trouble for them I would imagine!
I always go soft when I see cops, mainly cause I don't want them to hear my exhaust screaming

Similar one in Utah, exhibition of speed. Mostly issued for revving, burn-outs, wheelies, and other silly behavior. But they can issue it for going full-throttle to get to speed. I was pulled over once but the officer dropped it. I told him I was just trying to get to the left-side entrance ramp, and the car next to me wasn't letting me in. He was nice enough, and explained the law to me.
