I Painted my engine! pics inside

So tis was a nice day, and painted, plain and simple, im working on the conversion to the naked bike.

Nice job!, if you don't mind me asking, how did you painted the engine? did you remove any parts to make it easier? your engine looks like a factory paint job :thumbup:

I taped it all off, and covered it with plastic on top to keep airborn paint from falling on it, I used engine 500f heat resist paint, did a couple coats of it, but im not done, i need to find some kind of matte finish coat, cause i dont want it glossy, i havent searched for it yet though.

How long did it take to tape it all up Geoff and how the hell did you manage to get in all the nooks and crannys?
I did the engine on my Gixer,but had to drop it out of the frame and strip everything off was a bugger of a job.

It took me a little over an hour to tape off the bike, I honestly used a rattle can to do it, wasn't sure of the outcome but i was lucky. My headers were pretty discolored but that's what they do. I need to find somebkind of matt finish for auto though.

I hadn't seen this thread until now. Holy cow dude... I wouldn't dare something like this on the engine. What did you do to the old paint? Did you wet sand it and prime, or did you just spray directly on top of the old paint?

Kudos to you for doing this, and it sure looks awsome! :thumbup: However, I would look out for chipping paint etc...

+1 for more details. Any chance you can do a writeup of the entire process? I know that I and a bunch of other members would find it really useful. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only member with a silver engine that wishes it was black, but I'm terrified to do it on my own without something to reference along the way. If you could write up the exact process you used it would be amazing. You literally just taped a bunch of stuff up and just started spraying everywhere? Did you have to sand or did you just clean the surface? What I'm getting from this thread at the moment is I can just get heat resistance paint in rattle can, tape everything up, and just go hog wild. I'm assuming that is not entirely accurate
