I Need Clear Taillight Installation Instructions

I have just received the attached taillight kit with integrated indicators from ebay. Unfortunately, I didn't get any installation instructions to put them onto the bike. I can take the stock lense to bits no problems, but I don't know how to install this kit with the random bits of red plastic and little metal things etc.

If anyone has bought one of these kits, I'd be really grateful if they could reply to this post and attach a scan of the instructions that came with it or link to them online. I need diagrams! :D I had a look round here and Google for 30 mins and found nothing useful!

thought i could help for a minute ..but mine came as a sealed unit..im sure a lot of the US aftermarket tail lights come like yours ,someone will have the answeres

I have that one and let me tell you, installation was a total pain in the backside. I ended up using a drywall screw to hold the pcb in place and had to cut out some of the bottom of the housing and reseal it with silicone.

It was a nightmare.

Hope you get it figured out.


edit: I don't have my instructions, but here's a little help for the wiring. the yellow wires go to your signal positive wire for each corresponding side. Best to temporarily hook stuff up and test you've got the right side. I would recommend throwing those red connectors as far as possible. Just cut and solder the connections or use quick disconnects if you want to be able to disconnect.

I have that same light installed on my FZ6, and it's no fun to install. Removing the OEM taillight is a nightmare on its own. I'm at work right now, but will have a look when I get home for the instructions. IIRC, there is a website that has the same instructions, but the URL is on the paper instructions.
I'll post up as soon as I have the info.
 
From the picture, the LED connections for running light and brake light are straight off the 1157 plug body.... simply replace the tail light bulb with that. The yellow wires are the 'hot' leads for the left and right turnsignals.

All you have to do is figure out which is 'left' and 'right' and splice onto the hot leads for the OEM turnsignals. As it looks like the wires come off the PCB adjacent to their LED banks, it should be fairly straightforward as to which is which.....

There's not much more detail they could give, and cover bazillions of different models of motorcycle tail light. Plug the connector into the light socket, secure it with an O ring to prevent it backing out....... Use the yellow wires to bring the blinker signal to the PCB.

I'm not jazzed that they seem to think an O ring resting on a plastic mounting strut is solid enough to retain the PCB, especially after they have you cut down the posts if necessary to 'fit't the PCB.

for those of you that have done this, why do they ignore the reflector? Doe is provide some support to the PCB or soemthing?

Yeah thanks. I saw them, but they awful! :( I skipped over them at first as they were so brief, but now I can see that I need to follow the CTL-0077-IT "instructions", I'll probably just take it all to bits at the weekend and experiment with the glue gun. I'm fine with the wiring (already tested them all with a 12v PSU), but it's the fitting securely to the bike part I'm unsure about. I don't even know which way round the silver plastic ring goes exactly. Are the red things and metal things to patch the yellow wires into the signals? If so, I won't be using those, I'll extend the wires, solder in decent connections and cover them in heat-shrink. I like the way that it's powered by the bulb connection, I'm not sure how long the way the wires are soldered to the board will last though.

Any photograps of the installation would be very usefull for the others who think of doing this mod.
 
If you have a hot glue gun, adding a blob of glue over the points the wires are soldered into the PCB will reinforce the joint. If not, RTV would do it as well. Even better, if you can provide some mechanical strain relief.... is there a spot on the pcb that is not populated that you could add a stanction to, to tie off the wiring?

The red things are a 'guillotine' type of wire splice, and the metal bits are the blades for them. The metal bits are placed in grooves in the red bits, and the wires you want to connect are threaded transverse through the body, so the vee shaped grooves will cut through the insulation when the red body is snapped together. As each metal bit has 2 grooves, it will cut through the insulation on both, and become the conductor between them.

Are you already running LED turn signals somewhere else? Do you already have an electronic flasher to replace the OEM unit?
 
My initial instructions would be: 1. do not buy a clear alternatives tail light
2. buy the one that is a complete housing and install

Yeah, I was definitely planning on gluing the points, maybe even coat the back of the whole thing with glue to protect the LED solder points etc. I'm not going to use the horrible splice things!

I'm going to keep my flush mount indicators with stock wattage bulbs and use these as well. The stock relay should be able to handle the extra fraction of a watt! I'm also going to wire in a second brakelight (using LEDs) I've got on order that I'll attach to the numberplate for even more lighting.

I'll post pics when done. I've got the day off today due to snow so I think I'll be installing this.
 
I purchased at the local ACE hardwaretwo self-tapping very small & long screws to mount the chome-looking base to the stock reflector (after drilling to small pilot holes. But, yeah, you can use silicon or something also for that. Another two short, self-tapping small screws to mount the LED board to the base (the holes are already in the base). Yeah, the stock tailight unit requires some dismantling---I thought there was a thread on tailight removal? At any rate, I don't have the integrated LED board, just the "regular board" and so, I imagine, it was easier to wire.

I got the same kit and the same problem. I cant figure out what to do with the 2 yellow wires.

Yup. They go to the positive connections on each indicator. Make sure you test it all before wiring up. I posted details on what I did on my website in my signature below.
 
I know this is an old post but I wanted to say thank you because I bought the same LED tail light and thought it would be easy to install, then found no instructions or way to get them from the website on the box. SANGER_A2, your write up on your site was very helpful to me. Now to go do it...
