I need a recommendation for a rain outfit.

I have a trip coming up in a week and I'm wondering if anybody owns a waterproof outfit that has worked well to keep you dry.

Waterproof gear usually does not breathe well so I have a Tourmaster one piece rainsuit. Very waterproof but hot to wear. Comes in a pouch to store when not in use. I bought the yellow and black as to be seen in wet conditions. Easy to carry and put on in changing conditions.

Totes work well to cover your riding boots.

If you want the best buy something made with Gortex. Lots of $$$

If you don't mind looking a little like a dork, get some Frogg Toggs. These work great, are very lightweight, breathable, packable and are relatively cheap.

I bought my Frogg Toggs five years ago. Back then they catered to the hunting crowd. Looking at their website I have discovered that since then they have added a line of Motorcycle suits. Probably even better, but more $$$.

I also have a trip coming up this week, spose to be raining when we leave. I picked up a Nelson Rigg two piece for $50 at my Yamaha dealer yesterday. Haven't tried it out yet. It's raining today so I might go out for a short ride and test it out. I havent ridden in the rain yet so I want to get a little experience before setting out.

I bought a set of frogtoggs at cycle gear, the suit is the tits. Its super lightweight, still quite breatheable, and when you take it off and shake it a couple times, its practically dry. I dont like the wet slicker feeling of the plastic suits when they get wet and you have to go inside somewhere.

on another note.... if it is raining and you want to be dry then seal the wrists and neck or it will come in while moving.

I looked into some rain gear by cycle shops but they seemed overprice. I went to Bass Pro Shop and ended up buying rain gear from their marine department. They had a lot more selection and the price was very reasonable. Since rain gear doesn't come with armour, there is really no difference. You just wear it over your gear anyway. I've never been to the store prior to getting the rain gear, ended up spending over an hour there, that place is huge!

So timely a topic! Kid needs breathable rain gear this fall for a field trip to the coast (Vancouver) and I'm on the Street Skills course in two weeks, rain or shine, so I ordered the Frogg Togg's "Road Toad" while the "Pro Action" for Brit. We'll see how they work out. Could probably use them for golfing and bicyling home, or when it's pouring out, go jumping in the puddles. LOL.

Frogg Toggs all the way. If you want to keep rain out of the neck put the hood part way on loosely then put helmet on (turn head a few times to make sure loose enough for headchecks) pull the front neck part up and tuck under chin strap of helmet and ride dry! The orange color is surprisingly very visible in bad weather even though it doesn't scream out like blaze orange. I've ridden full day rides in major downpours and stayed relatively dry and the suit breathes really well.

On the weekend we had a total accumulation of 9mm and at one point a rate of 4mm/hour pouring down on us while we where traveling on all types of roads as part of the “Street Skills” course I was on. Oddly the rain started when we headed out and stopped when we got back almost 10 hours later. :wtf:

To the point, the Road Toad by Frogg Toggs were top notch. They kept me dry through the whole ordeal and I had the boot covers and the glove covers purchased with the rain suit. I highly recommend the Road Toad as it really is breathable. Not once did I felt like being in a sauna. :thumbup:

+1. Though I don't have the "Road Toad" model, I have a set of Frogg Toggs and love them. My pair don't keep me 100% dry in our Florida downpours (I get some water down the neck), but moderate rain, it does wonderful. It also folds up nicely and fits great in my tank bags with room for more stuff.
