I had a low-speed crash this weekend.

Hi All,

As the title says, I had an incident on the weekend. I had a low-speed lowside and now my poor baby looks like this. (see below) I have made my insurance claim, but I'm afraid that the adjuster might write it off, and I'm hoping to have my bike fixed because I love it so much. The bike is currently at the shop, and they should be able to give me a comprehensive report this week. Does anyone have any experience in buying the plastic fairings/fender/replacement parts? Are body parts for the FZ6 expensive? Should I try to source a donor bike? Any advice is appreciated please!

As far as I can tell, all the front plastics need to be replaced. Everything mechanical and electrical still works. If not for the GIVI bags, the rest of the bike would have fared a lot worse!

Oh, and I'm perfectly fine. I was wearing full gear, and I'm so glad for it. I fell at about 40km/h going round a sharp blind bend on a very narrow back road. If I didn't lay it down as I did, I would have hit the oncoming pickup truck...

Good to hear you are ok. That "wearing all the gear" thing really works! I have the same color 05 as you and over the winter I replaced both 'visors' (that is what Yamaha calls the silver swooshes in either side of the fairing. They were about $90.00 total. If it is just plastics then you might not even make your deductible limit. I would price it out and see if it is cheaper to buy new or to buy used and perhaps paint. Good luck.

yikes. Sorry to hear that! I had a similar fall - ego and wallet hurt more than anything else.

Mine is '04 and I had to replace the windshield, the fairing and the stay
The windshield and the fairing cost me $175 USD shipped and the stay I bought through a part-out on this forum for $65 USD shipped.

The original windshield ran $45, and after receiving it, I upgraded it to Puig (highly recommended, but costs $85)

You'll also need the plastic side piece (the one that goes around the blinker)

Also, i had to replace the side panel on the inside of the fairing (the horizontal part under the handlebars) - i cant find the order now, but it wasnt that expensive)

Just noticed the side of the headlight - are the mounting points gone? I lucked out - i had a crack in the headlight assembly, but not beyond that, so i just glued it and used this as an opportunity to install HID lights. If the mounting points are gone - the headlight assembly gets pricey. If you can't find a part-out, perhaps, go naked?

Thanks for all the quick replies and encouragement. I'd rather not go naked as this is my daily, year-round, driver. Plus I make the occasional road trip 2-up. I will see where the dealership sources their parts from, but will definitely try and locate the plastics on the interweb. I'm honestly hoping that all the damage is cosmetic.

I don't think they'll total it - when I looped mine I had to get all of the expensive plastics + fairing stay, rear subframe, rear wheel and a few other things and it was around $3k, can't see this being half that. Get frame sliders afterwards, you probably would have lost your peg and picked up some small fairing rash but not much else.

Yes it's a Corbin. It already came with the bike when I bought it, so it's really nice and worn in. The leather might be a bit slippery for some, but I put a Triboseat cover for the passenger.

I've already talked at length with the adjuster this morning, and right off the bat they will cover up to $3000 minus my deductible of $500. So basically $2500. I have my fingers crossed.

glad you are ok , the bike doesnt look too bad, as far as going naked, I ride everyday in all weather and no fairing hasnt been an issue from my p.o.v. Might be different with 2 up on the highway, still might be worth considering

I ride 2up on the highway quite often, naked bike here. Bike feels fine, and aside from the extra dust, bugs and pebbles that hit my bare arms when I don't rock a jacket, I really don't notice it. Much less buffeting from the wind screen, you actually feel more stable on the bike because of the constant wind rather than the surging currents behind a poorly designed windscreen.

Here's another thing I want to point out about my experience. I'm so glad that I had these simple GIVI hard bags mounted, and that I didn't choose to remove them for my ride that Saturday. As you can see, it bore all the damage to the rear, so the rest of the bike was unscathed. And it still works perfectly!

***UPDATE!*** Re: I had a low-speed crash this weekend.

Here's an update on my FZ6. It's confirmed a write-off. The whole front is smashed and the steering components are shot. It's not worth fixing her up at this point, so I'm going to try and scavenge some parts and post them on this forum (Corbin seat anyone?). I watched some GoPro vids of my rides and I feel a heartache. I will miss this bike so much...

However, I'm moving on now. There isn't another decent FZ6 for sale in the configuration that I want in my surrounding area. I also realized that this bike has always egged me on to be a bit of a hooligan on the streets. So I'm going to try something completely different now; the adventure-style motorbike.

I do not have access to the bike yet, as it's still in the shop. I originally swapped out my Corbin for the stock seat. Most likely the insurance will only allow me to scavenge the GIVI luggage rack. I have the boxes at home.

Mate check with another shop, that bike is defo not a write off a slightly bent tripple tee can be straightened out only a cracked frame would actually make it a write off.

It's a write-off, because the parts and labour are more than the value of the bike. All the plastics need to be replaced, the head bearing is crushed, the triple tree is bent, the front axle is bent, among other things... I suppose I could keep the bike and try and fix it, but I really do not have the space/time/money.
