Honda VFR 800

So i took one for a test ride today, wow what a nice bike. this one is a 2002 but in great shape, kinda thinking i want to get this bike rides like a dream and more power than the FZ6.

I like my FZ6 but the VFR is pretty nice. Any one have any experience with these bikes ?

It has 2 bhp more than my fizzer and weighs in at a porky 557lb,so I'm afraid it doesn't top my wish list.

Not the best year for VFR. 2002-2005 had some issues with VTEC, if I'm not mistaken. 06 and up are supposed to be better.
Best models are actually the generation before 2002 (1998-2001).
They are all known to suffer from rectifier/regulator failure (can also lead to stator failure). There are aftermarket wiring harnesses made specifically for these bikes which many say cure the problem, but some say it's the heat that causes it and the problem is bound to reappear.
Maintenance is pricey and if you choose to tackle big jobs yourself (valve adjustment, for one), it's not easy.
Having said all that, I've ridden my friend's 2000 VFR and I think it's a fantastic bike. Phenomenal exhaust note (he has Yoshi pipe on his). More torque than FZ6, especially down low and no handlebar vibration. If I was touring, I'd rather be on VFR for sure. In the twisties though, I think FZ6 has the upper hand.

I've rode my friend's 2007 VFR and it's a nice bike. When the VTEC kicks in it's got some balls. Doing maintenance on it is another story...he said even doing an oil change is a pain in the ass.

I was wondering about doing maintenance, so far this is just a far flung idea I am not sure just yet. Valves were don, but they do cost about $900 to have them done, so i guess that is something to keep in mind.

They also had a Triumph Daytona (the limited one, white and blue so nice) but alas there was no test ride on that one

My buddy has a 2006 VFR. I didn't really like the feel myself but yup, it's got balls. The maintenance BS is typical Honda.

Hi all,
I have had a go on my mates 2000 VFR 800. I loved it. The exhaust note is also nice. I was even considering selling the FZ to buy one of these.
I eventually decided to keep the FZ, as I just love it! I am hoping to be able to get back on her soon.. I cant wait.

i was personally very interested to get the vfr myself. but the parts was not easily available here so i gave up the idea.
