High beam sucks...

About the wattage I dont know. I asked the guy at the counter for HIDs and he ordered them for me. I have a HID high beam and a HID low beam. I push button and they work. They could be wired with confetti and silly putty for all I know lol.

and RJ, ya man. Those are the HIDs. that is in BROAD daylight around early afternoon on a sunny day. You can see them coming with a sharp twinkle even from an odd angle so very far away.

At night those things are insanely bright. but like I said only downside is they take a lil bit to warm up and get really bright. you cant just flip the switch and expect the floodlight. so i ride around most the time with them on so they are warm if i need them. i flip them off when oncoming traffic is passing or im overtaking someone within 200m or so.

That's why I want two low, with the option for high on an incandescant, or shuttered HID.

I crashed 3 months after I bought the FZ.... October of '05 on a wet night due to that one stinking low beam.... the single HID bulb would be lots birghter on the H7 side, and would probably be okay aim-wise ( I could live with irritating a few drivers... but I don't want to PO them enough to have them chase me down)... You have another on the H4 side, but it only lights on High beam?

Darn, the quite easy HID-way is a no go for me then. When I drive from home I constantly meet traffic unless I drive after midnight, and there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to turn on high beam because there is so much light on the roads. And I have dual low-beam and a white helmet, so no reason to flash high beam at all unless I am driving in total darkness outside of town areas or warning some dude who is about to overtake way to slow up ahead.

Another reason why the HID-option doesn't work for me is that I tend to curse at people driving with high beam for what I believe is no reason at all. Few realize just how blinded you get when being flashed by high beam straight ahead or in the mirror. But the area that lonesoldier rides in might be very different from mine so no offence! :thumbup:

It's funny riding with a white helmet. Especially in the evening I can clearly see some cars brake-light shortly coming on up ahead for a moment, until they realise my bike isn't even white (the Danish motorcycle police drive with white BMW/Honda and white helmets).

If you want all the light from HID, wihtout making other drivers upset, the projector HID configuration is the best possible solution. The projector setup replaces the OEM reflector with lenses that very tightly focus and aim the light from the HID.... almost no 'stray' light. The cut off eliminates offending oncoming drivers by masking off the part of the lens that would create the offending light.

The dual projector set up results in 2 low beams, or 2 high beams on command with 3 times as much light output, with less wattage consumed than OEM.

My personal concern has to do with that tightly focused beam pattern..... I suspect it makes a rider less visible to any driver who is not in your immediate path. I'd really have to see a bike in motion in traffic that has been converted, to judge the results.

and as for annoying other drivers, I turn off the highbeams when there is an oncoming vehicle within 400 meters or so and when there is someone i am passing with 200 meters or so. when nobody is in those windows.....the high beams stay on......

(when coming through an intersection with people waiting to turn left i flash the high beams a couple times and do the same when overtaking)

Yes those profector HID looks very cool on the FZ6, but just like you I am sceptic about the tight focus. I almost think that on a long 160km run along the highway (unfortunately my girlfriend lives that far away) with a tight focused light like that would annoy my own focus. Maybe I am talking rubbish I don't now?
When I am directly met by xenon and similar types of extra sharp light in traffic, it can really heat up my eye sockets, so unless its stock on some car/bike I buy one day I doubt I would ever install it afterwards. But then again I think my eyes reach more to light (also sunlight) because I need to wear sunglasses more often than most other people I know. Hmm perhaps I should consider a laser-threatment sometime later on

I will work on somehow getting dual high beam with ordinary bulbs. I rarely use high beam for longer runs - mostly just for lighting up dark corners + saying "here I come" on highways. I don't have GPS, heated handlebars, Goldwing radio or anything else attached to the battery, so I am not that worried about the power consumption of the ordinary bulbs.

I now have dual high beam with H4. I simply cut the H4's metal socket smaller so it was like a H7 and it fits perfect.

Well I haven't completely testet it yet - Still need to add a wire to right side for highbeam but I'm in no hurry because I won't ride during winther anyway!

But it has to be better than stock high beam at least - most likely not as sharp as HID and so on but a heck of a lot cheaper!

Lol. I just finished reading through this thread and was about to post and tell you to search on here as there is already at least one person who has modded their headlight so that they can use two H4 bulbs! Sounds like you did it pretty easily anyway.

I know with my '09 on dim, it runs the one beam all of the time. When you switch to bright the already-on lamp ever-so-slightly comes up brighter and the other lamp then comes on as well. (Total of two now) While there is a slight increase in intensity the beam seems to spread out wider more than anything. (Thankfully it is a super bright white light!)

I did an LED running light mod and my high beam switch now operates my low beams. The high beam was totally useless anyway IMHO.

Hehe I know but I actually didn't see the thread until after I thought about it...
A few weeks ago I compared a H7 and a H4 to see if I couldn't just cut a bit in the H4 to make it fit. Talked with my uncle about it (he has helped me alot with my car and very good at most mechanical/technical stuff). He was unsure about it and started to google like crazy for dual H4 related stuf and so on... then he found a thread on fz6-forum (where I was already a member) about a guy who made dual H4 exactly like I said I was going to do and that settled it.
And yep it was easy and took about 2 hours (including a long search in all sorts of boxes in the garage for some hard plastic). I had to cut this into a new washer that fitted the back of the resized H4 to make a better and equal fit of the H7.
