High beam sucks...

Hi!

Like most other bikes I only have high beam on one of the headlights (left).
Does dual headlights mod mean that you got high beam on both sides og just regular light on both sides?

Regular light seems fine. But when I in between need high beam (for riding in total darkness or for telling those blistering brainfreezers who sleeps in the left lane below the maximum allowed topspeed that here I come)... I really don't think the high beam is good enough.

Thought about dual headlights mod (if that means easily creating high beam in both lights), or perhaps adding 1 or 2 smaller lightclusters with high beam lights down front (on each side of the radiator kind of hidden besides viewing from front. Perhaps one circular lightcluster exactly in the middle but still hidden a bit (in front of the top part of the radiator. Perhaps that could be really cool - except the tiny detail that it perhaps isn't totally legal?

BD43's dual headlight mod that so many have done turns on both bulbs (instead of only the left one) as low when the low beam switch is set. When the high beam is on, the left remains low, the right is high. You can't have dual high beams with the BD43 mod.

You can get dual high beams with the HID Projector mod. Check out lengthy threads started by Gozilla and Boneman. That is a pretty cool mod.

If this is the case, then the previous owner has already made dual headlight mod to my bike. Both lights are on with low beam and only the left (or maybe right - I can't remember) turns on with high beam.

MrMogensen, I believe the Euro-FZ6's came with dual lower beams as default. Mine (Norwegian) certainly does, and it should be unmodified according to the guy I bought it from.

Popeye70 > Most likely you are totally right. I never really thought about if mine was modified. I remember when I bought it I just thought it was very cool that is wasn't only single low-beam like numerous other bikes.
The wiring doesn't look unusual at all. But I do believe I have seen some FZ6's in Denmark with only one low beam light on... could it be that the first 2004-2005 models had dual low-beam and the later 2006 update had only single low-beam.

I have HID bulbs in mine. When they warm up its a bloody floodlight. Love those things.

As far as I know all the stock FZ6 S's are single low beam.. At least all of the ones I've seen in Norway has had only single low beam, including my own.

I have a 2004 model, registered in july/august 2004 if I recall correctly. I bought it in september this year, and it has approx. 21.000 kms on the odometer.

The only mod so far is the lowering. I had it lowered about an inch as I have short legs. Frame and fork sliders are awaiting mounting, and I also have some reflexive tape lying around, planned for my front fork and the swing arm.

Oh, it's the lightning fast silver model.

Are you running the HID bulbs without projectors, Soldier? Using the OEM reflectors?

Call me lone. No need for formalities

And all I did was buy the bulbs. The little things that screw in. The casings and reflectors are stock. These things are insanely bright. The only downside is you need to warm up your high beam before it gets really bright. So this means you will have to ride around with your highbeam on at night turning it off when you come into traffic and dont want to annoy people. Then pass everyone and carry on with your highbeam on.

I leave it on because there is no POSSIBLE way a left hand turner can claim not to have seen me coming......also if I am passing someone I leave it on till I get within 200 meters, then flash it a couple times then turn it off....maybe flash it one more time when entering their blind spot.

I took a cable and connected the one light with the other. I cannot rememeber which of the points on the actual bulb I connected, but now both low beams always light and the one high beam when I activate the switch for high beam.

You can also try adjusting the beams for a more central and focused light area.

I'd want to set it up so that the H4 side was lit on low, so I would have both the H7 and H4 low on..... If I can get an H4 with a secondary Hi function to fit in the fixture, I'd do that.... but I'd want both low beams if possible.

I dont have dual anything beams.

I have HID bulbs in there instead of the stock ones. The concerns raised by the original post have been dealt with to 100% satisfaction for me. Love these things. Even in the daylight I stand out head on.

Aahhhh okay.
Yesterday I read the entire 14 page thread about bi-xenon and other types of dual this and that mods... so was confused because your solution was so easy.

The set of HID bulbs you bought they are both prepared for low/high beam right? And they need less watts than the ordinary bulbs - or was that some other kind?

My idea was to us ordinary bulbs and get dual high-beam with some smaller modification => connect a wire for high beam to the right bulb.
Perhaps do this mod if it works and then add in the HID bulbs for the meanest high beam in town... eerhmm at least on a bike that is.
