HID and you

I don't believe I was ever saying anything bad about stock HID or properly done retrofits.

I'm going to do a high/low retrofit myself. But it will be done properly and aimed correctly when finished, so I don't go blinding everybody else on the road.

Awesome job on the LS. I always wanted an LS, just never came across one when I was buying my last car.

Thanks! I think I lucked out with mine, as I really haven't had any problems with it. Reading through the LS forum I frequent, it seems that some of them have quite a few problems.

So are you going to tackle the retro yourself, or send the headlights and projectors off to someone?

The bixenon's are typically more expensive than the non-bixenons. Although, having shopped some S2000 projectors, those things go for quite the pretty penny!

Bi-xenon vs. single xenon doesn't really factor into the cost. It's all about the projectors performance that drives the price. A pair of LS430's or S2000's go for about $300-$350 (both single xenon), while a pair of E46's (bi-xenon) goes for about $50 and a pair of FX35's (also bi-xenon) go for about $75. The SC430 is also an awesome single xenon projector with E30 clear lenses, and could be purchased for about $280.

Where are you finding these projectors for so cheap? On ebay, I see FX35 projectors for $150 a pair and similar pricing otherwise for various bixenon. Your prices for LS430 and S2000 are about what I am seeing as well. If I could get a pair of decent projectors for under $100, I'd be pretty damn happy. I am assuming that by "E46" you mean a BMW 3 series, correct?

Check out the "For Sale" forum on HIDPlanet.com. That's the best place to buy projectors, and you can be assured you won't be scammed, or overcharged on there; sometimes e-bay can suck. :P

Wow, they have a ton of projectors for sale over there. Looks like I have a lot of reading to do to get caught up on the lingo over there though.

I'll likely tackle this myself. I've got all the tools necessary, included a decent mill in the garage, and access to a nice lathe. So anything that needs to be fabbed up should be no problem. Biggest issue will be making sure it's all still able to be aimed via the OEM adjustment points.

I have been following the FZ6/HID thread at SBN with some interest..

The easiest way to do that is to make the mounting bracket fit up to the stock/OEM adjusting screws. That is how I did my FZ6 projectors and they aim perfectly.
