ok, so my head is spinning with HID stuff. been googling around for an hour - ballasts, wattage, kelvin scale and whatnot.

I thought I would throw it out to the forum. What kind of setups are you all using? price and links to suppliers if you can provide them.

btw, Boneman, you are a wiring genius!! Props to you for putting all that stuff in your fairings (that won't be me, not capable)

I've been on the fence about doing this mod, too, because I realllly want it, but need to weight the cost/benefit of it.

Thanks for posting the link to the kit, So, you would still need to buy the ballasts, right? Is that the only missing piece of the puzzle?

Also, when I was researching this before, I noticed some debate on whether regular or slim ballasts were better. do most people use slim ballasts for the space/installation convenience factors or the bigger regular ballasts for the purported better performance?

BTW, just throwing this out there........ If someone is looking for a person to split the two kits with, i may be easily persuaded :BLAA:

A word about the benefits: I hold no regrets with this mod. I drive at night a lot because that is when my time gets freed up. This kit provides a ridiculous amount of light when compared to stock. My brother said it is like following a helicopter spotlight in reference to riding behind me at night.

They must be aimed properly because you will blind oncoming drivers.

Yes you have to buy ballasts. I used the regular ones and had no trouble finding space for them. HD Velcro is good stuff.

I know that there were a some people looking to partner up a while ago (couple of weeks). check the other HID threads.

Thanks all for jumping into the discussion. I've seen the halo eyes and I am not a fan of them..just my taste..so I will look further. there are some companies that do make a kit for the FZ6 but I will have to do my due diligence before committing to anything.

If I do need to partner up with someone I will throw this back out to the forum. for now I will take my time and look around as I am in no giant rush to get this done. thinking this would be a good winter project.

question though - for the regular ballasts.. you say there is room for them? where did you put them? inside the fairings? Are the ballasts waterproof?

Regards,
FB

I bought this bi-xenon setup

As discussed over in the mods forum, in the bi-xenon thread:
http://www.600riders.com/forum/fz6-...jector-angel-eye-installed-40.html#post350332

Theses are the ones that I and others got:
H4 9003 Bi-xenon projector HID CONVERSION Kit Hi/Lo New - eBay (item 130343248669 end time Sep-05-10 01:16:14 PDT)

They have everything that you need, and you don't need to split sets with anyone, as they will work with both H4 and H7 if you tell the guy in advance that's what you need.

I'm in the process of installing them now.

I've got the DDM Tuning in my low beam, in 5000K(pure white). Been using their kits in everything. Both my motorcycles, and 3 vehicles. They're cheap, and easy to hook up. I just kept my high beam halogen, and put a better bulb in there, as the OEM one is a Philips Long Life, which is pretty much the weakest halogen you can get. lol Comes on slow, and is dim, but that's the price you pay for a long lasting bulb.

I thought I was the only one that didn't like halos! lol You could always paint over 'em, if you want projectors.

I am not going to get into links or prices since there are tons of threads here that explain each option.

I have had everything:

HID look alike bulbs 8000k (blueish headlights): cool looking but crap at night

HID direct replacement bulb on low beam side only 8000K: Decent, much brihter than stock, increases sign reflection, easy to install, best bang for the buck/effort, but i would go with 6000K for a color as it provides more usable light at night

HID Projectors Hi/Low beams both sides 6000K: Absolutely the best that i have had, Much much brighter than just the bulb, crisp cut off line with low beams and virtual daylight on highbeams. A bit more $ ($200ish) and a good bit more wiring on the install, but you certainly get back what you put into it with this mod. By far the way to go if you can do the wiring, since it is not noticably more expensive.

I have half of a Retro-solustions 5000k H4 55w Bi-Xenon kit in the right side and a quick and dirty jumper to the factory low. Works great and the HID in the right throws a very nice low beam. I do not get flashed at night. The high beam is superb and "really" reaches way out. The two different colors of light bothered me at first but I think it helps get the "spacers" attention.

custom HID conversions, HID kits, LED, CCFL specialists - retrosolutions

FZ6 has a H4 Hi/Low bulb on the right and a H7 Low bulb on the right. If you have not done the BD43 dual headlight mod your right side low beam will not be on.

BTW, update to this thread since I was the OP.

I went with Novaks47 suggestion on DDM tuning HID kit.

I did H4 Hi/Lo and H7 kits in 5000k 35watt.

I love having them and they are plenty bright. To think there are 55watt ballasts that would just plug in (bulbs are the same 35w and 55w) gives me something to think about. Honestly though I think 55w would be way over the top in brightness as the 35watt put out a flood of light.

So far cagers seem ok with them as I haven't been flashed. I even passed a cop last week who paused for a few seconds but did not stop and give me trouble.

All in all this is my favorite mod so far. Highly recomended. Thanks Novaks47 again
