Over the past several weeks, I've noticed a distinct rattle when crossing RR tracks, bumps and the like. I could suppress it by placing my hand on my tank bag (so I figured it was something inside causing the rattle). Well, this evening I discovered the root of the problem. BOTH of my forward fuel tank screws are missing. I don't think both would bounce out (in fact, I think they had help). Are these hot items, or do you folks think someone wanted my tank?

Anybody else had this happen to them?

when was the last time you lifted your tank?

Many of us went through and tightened all the visible bolts on the bikes, seems like Yamaha techs need a lesson in torque wrench usage.

I was the last one to remove the screws (put the battery back in this Spring) so it's possible that I didn't tighten them enough (I'm 99.9% sure that I would not have forgotten to put them back in). Anyway, they'd have to bounce UP and out in order to fall out themselves - unlikely, I believe.

My hope is that someone was just after a set of screws and not the tank (in the past year, I've never seen another FZ6 on the road). Do other Yamaha's (FZ1, R1, FZR6) use the same screws (this is a possibility as well).

Losing the front tank bolts seems to be fairly common with the FZ6, where lifting the tank is almost a weekly ritual to check things out or install our latest doo-dads. :D
Loctite is our best friend.

I always tighten them hand tight with an allen key and they've never come loose.
Everytime I've lossed bolts due to vibration it was because I didn't tighten them enough.

Thanks all, that's what I was hoping to hear (that others had bounced them out). I really didn't want to think that my fuel tank had almost gotten stolen as I don't have $500-800 to replace it!
