Help? Stuff is leaking!!

I have no idea what this stuff is. I am not mechanically inclined. Is this clutch fluid? Oil? Help! This is my only means of transport and I am broke.

I do not ever see anything on the ground where I park it but I will smell it sometimes after a 30 miles run or so at high RPM's. Here are some pictures that those of you who know about this stuff might be able to lend me a hand.

Any help would be great.

Looks like chain lube that has been slung off and is building up. Just to be sure remove the drive sprocket cover and take a look.

It looks like chainlube/road grime. Although there's quite a bit of it. Whens the last time you've cleaned that area?

+1... you read my mind. Looks like chain lube that got slung off the chain, and is dripping out from under the primary sprocket cover.

Definately chain lube gunk that has built up. Pull the srocket cover off and get busy cleaning it, the chain and rear sprocket.

Then get yourself some dry-lube (I use stuff called Bel-Ray chain lube, goes on and dries and is supposed to not attract grime).

Ummmmm.... where exactly is the drive sprocket cover?

looks like you are lubing your chain with straight motor oil... get some dry wax type of lube and it will stay on the chain a lot better. The sprocket cover is the metal peice that the chain goes into and comes out of in that area. If you take that off you will be surprised at how caked with grime it is in there.



Wear gloves because that grime is insanely impossible to clean off your skin. clean with WD-40, gasoline or Kerosene as they will help break down the grime.

Now for the endless list of recommended chain lube. I use Dupont Teflon spray lubricant. It dries quickly and does not attract dirt.

It comes in a blue can and can be found at most hardware stores (Lowes, Ace).

You will need to remove the plastic cover in the upper right of your first picture. Clean all of the gunk out of the area. You may need to get some engine degreaser to help dissolve the stuff. In the future, a little lube goes a long way.
