Help! - First issue for novice rider

hello guys...

Over the past 2 days I have felt the bike not being smooth when pottering about in town. Feels like a slight misfire. Also the idle speed was not smooth, even when the engine was warm. Hi rev stuff (like motorway riding) is fine...and then today while rolling off the throttle and down shifting for a red light the engine cut out stopped by the road side. did not start on first try...turned the ignition on and off...and tried again started fine...but still the idle feels rough, and rolling off and down shifting felt as if it would cut the engine again...got home by keeping the revs up when down shifting..

I washed it on sunday...so i thought maybe some water got into a spark plug lead...but it rode fine on the motorway...any ideas guys?? also, if i wanted to check the spark plugs, will i need to lift the tank or take off the side fairings???

Based on the symptoms, I would suspect one of the following:
1) bad TPS (there was a recall - do a search on here and you will find a ton of info)
2) bad gas
3) bad spark plug(s)
4) plugged fuel injectors

Called my local dealer (Morse's Motorcycles in Weston-Super-Mare) today and explained the situation to him...he is POSITIVE its the TPS...and will do the work (hopefully next week) under the recall...very helpful :thumbup:

Hopefully that will sort it out....if not it will be some expensive diagnostics

sounds like you got the answer, but TPS was my first guess too... good luck with the repair and enjoy the fix

amazing that there are still bikes out there with bad tps! its been 5 years since the recall!

It is amazing although mine was done just last week. Bought it used and the original owner never did the recall. The dealer said he has never seen a FZ6 go bad but obviously some have. If this is the case, maybe alot of owners figured they would take care of it when needed. So if was never needed, maybe there are still alot of unfixed bikes out there.
